About
Jim Farris Cabinets handles cabinet and furniture work out of Pasadena, Texas. Jim Farris opened the shop in 1976 after working in fine art. He builds custom cabinets and furniture from domestic and exotic woods, veneers, and laminates. The shop covers kitchens, bathroom vanities, home offices, built-ins, living rooms, and similar pieces for homes and businesses across the greater Houston area including League City.
Homeowners have brought Jim projects such as a rolling office table with a hinged drop leaf that folds into a cabinet, a custom kitchen island with corbels and glazing on existing doors, finish work on a dining table with complex inlay, a live-edge walnut bar top, a wine storage room, a cherry wardrobe with frosted glass doors, office bookshelves and display cases, and a modern dining buffet. Jim along with John and Jose turned these ideas into finished pieces that fit the spaces and matched the styles requested.
Jim returns calls within a day or two and visits homes to review the work area. He offers suggestions that add function or improve the overall appearance without expanding the footprint. His team handles installation with care around existing surfaces and answers questions during the job. The shop serves the greater Houston area and keeps the same approach on both small fixes and larger builds.

What Customers Say
“Jim came highly recommended by a builder we had worked with previously. We presented Jim with a very challenging project. We wanted a custom rolling, folding office table with a large hinged table drop-leaf that can be placed within our cabinet or pulled out and expanded for meetings. The trick was that we wanted the table to look seamless when the leaf is dropped and seamless when the leaf was raised. Jim's solution was to build a rounded hinge out of the table top's solid walnut. He also solved the counterbalance issue of having a heavy drop leaf by integrating an elegant steel plate into the bottom frame. This was truly a unique project. Our table is one-of-a-kind. Jim's craftsmanship and eye for detail are bar-none. More importantly, I'm convinced he can make any idea happen. He thought through our list of wants and customized a piece of furniture that become a work of art. We cannot recommend Jim Farris enough.”
“I have used Jim Farris cabinets for several projects over the past year. Most recently we made modifications to the cabinets in our kitchen. Jim came to our home and was able to guide us in modifications that would give us the biggest impact. He created a custom island cabinet, refaced a few cabinet doors, added corbels and glazed the existing cabinetry. I would recommend Jim for any project where quality and craftsmanship is important to you.”
“I built a wooden dining room table with complex inlay top. I worked hard to finish the top, but was not satisfied with the results, and so asked Jim to make it look the way I wanted it to. (see the picture below of the finish work he did on the table I made). The work he and his team can do is incredible. I've seen a number of examples of his work, both large and small jobs. If you have a cabinetry or finishing job you want done right, Jim Farris is the guy!”
“My experience with Jim was amazing! Coming from a design background, I knew precisely what I wanted. Jim made my dream kitchen design a reality. He not only listens and delivers what his clients want, he makes suggestions that enhance the functionality of the space. Everything from his working drawings, construction & finishes and installation, down to the smallest detail, is ABSOLUTE PERFECTION! I look forward to working with Jim again. I wouldn’t even consider using someone else for my cabinets. He is truly an ARTIST! M. Mitchell”
“Thank you to Jim Farris Cabinets for our beautiful new kitchen cabinets. Jim had previously built new cabinets for both of our bathrooms, so we knew of his professionalism and that his work is top quality. His suggestions for ways to improve the overall look of our kitchen and to increase the amount of cabinet space without increasing the footprint of the cabinets in the kitchen has been the most surprising and delightful part of the project. It is so nice to work with a contractor who will answer your calls and take the time to respond to your questions. His team showed the same professionalism when they installed the cabinets. They were very careful with the cabinets and all surrounding areas and left everything clean when they were finished.”
“We engaged Jim and his crew to help us with a few special projects for our new home. (We kept expanding the scope as we were so pleased with their work!). They constructed a beautiful live-edge walnut bartop, a custom wine storage room, and a custom walnut table to fit a niche in our game room. In each case, the quality and the attention to detail were wonderful. Jim made suggestions in each case that enhanced the functionality and beauty of each piece. We will certainly not hesitate to contact Jim and his crew for future projects.”
“We purchased a home and remodeled the home office. Jim designed and built the office cabinets, book shelves, and display areas. He brought a lot of good ideas and suggestions. The finished product is wonderful and exactly what we wanted. Jim is dependable and trustworthy, you won't be sorry if you trust him with your project.”
“We moved into a new home about a year ago. Unsatisfied with our existing dining room buffet and unable to find a satisfactory one to purchase, we began investigating custom solutions. After researching local cabinet makers, we decided to email Jim Farris Cabinets. Within a day or two, Jim called and we discussed our needs. Jim came to the house, saw the space we were working with, listened to our conceptual ideas (our taste is modern/contemporary), and began proposing designs. This is where Jim’s artistic background and decades of experience shines through. After settling on a conceptual design, Jim proceeded to complete the detailed design, emailed it and a cost estimate to us for approval, then began work. After a few weeks, John and Jose installed the completed buffet and wall mounted shelf units, doing attentive, meticulous work. We couldn’t have been happier with the end product. Beautiful, high-quality buffet. A few months later, we again turned to Jim for a TV console/feature wall. Holy Cow! Jim had outdone himself! Unbelievable artistry and quality! 100% satisfied! For those considering using Jim and reading these testimonials, I will say this: Almost all t”
“Some years ago I hired Jim to create a custom wardrobe to perfectly fit into this pocket at the corner of one of my bedrooms. It's cherry stained with two large doors each with frosted glass inserts in the middle. I had him paint the inside of the glass to get an opaque frosted glass look. It came out so beautiful. I came up with a simple CAD design and he made it a reality.”
“Jim, John and Jose are the most talented, professional and precise craftsman around. Their work is in a class of its own. It’s obvious they are passionate about what they do and blessed with the talent that has been given to them. I am fortunate to know these guys.”
“AWESOME. You will know where your money went when you spend it here! If you want quality, this is where you go.”
