About

Mcwhorter Electric Inc serves homeowners across Portland, Texas as a local electrician crew that handles residential wiring and repair calls. The work covers everything from tracing bad circuits in older houses to sorting out appliance connections that fail under daily use. Portland sits near the coast so crews deal often with moisture that affects outlets and panels along with storm damage that knocks out power runs. They show up with the tools to open walls or climb into attics when a simple light or fan problem turns into something bigger. Homeowners in the area reach them for straightforward electrical fixes that keep the house running without long delays.

Cris and Rob rolled out for a dishwasher call that looked like a simple appliance issue but turned out to be wiring across the whole setup and had it sorted in about an hour after arriving in twenty minutes. Nikki keeps the schedule moving so techs reach jobs within an hour of the first call most days. Other visits involved a hall bathroom light where a prior crew had torn apart fixtures and sent the owner into the attic without answers yet the Mcwhorter crew checked the runs and got the lights working again. They bill by the hour plus materials and stay polite while finishing the work even when the job grows past the first estimate.

Customers keep mentioning how fast the trucks arrive and how the techs finish without leaving loose ends on the wiring. Speed and quality stand out on most calls while price stays clear once the hourly rate gets explained up front. A few jobs showed slower follow up after the first visit which pulled the average down. The crew earns steady marks for showing up ready and fixing what broke the first time. DIRT Score 3.52 from 17 reviews on Finds.

What Customers Say

CRIS and ROB These guys were awesome, 1st off same day service is all but unheard of now a days. Yaa I called they were at my place in 20mins!!! There was a problem with the dishwasher or so I thought as it turned out there where problems with the wiring of the whole setup. It took them maybe an hour and a1/2 to get it all done. All the while dealing with 2 giant dogs that had to see everything. They'll be my go to guys from now on. Thanks guys.

Service techs very polite and professional. They went above and beyond the scope of their duties. Very efficient and were at my home within an hour of my initial phone call to the business. Thank you Nikki for your prompt scheduling.

I called earlier this week, and they sent over someone that day to take a look at what I wanted. That went well. I did ask when I would find out more and worker said in a day or two. He could not give me a quote, but did say they charged by the hour and for materials. I understand that. I kept checking my email, because I did not have any phone calls. I was about to give up and start calling around for others to assist. Early this morning, two workers show up at my door ready to perform the work. I had no idea. I said such, and one worker said "Well, we can leave". I was like hmm, no no come in. I asked about how long it would take, because I had a work luncheon I had to leave for in 2 hours. They were not sure. I asked how much this was coming out to. I was told they do not deal with the pricing and do not know. I call the office and say "Hi, I had no idea anyone was showing up today and I would like to know the price". She says she does not quote upfront. I definitely do not want to go into this blindly, so I'm pushing to know before I am stuck with it. I am a Realtor, and I deal with companies all the time for my clients when it comes to getting quotes for work that is needed on homes that I help them buy or sell. I always ask for a quote before service. She also said she told me they were coming today. I only spoke to her one time, and that was the very first day that the guy came to look around. She put me on hold, got back on phone and said it is $XXX amount. I am shocked by the amount. I pause to think, she says would you me to cancel the service. I agree at this point, and say yes please. I did not like that I had no idea they were coming, the vibe of the first worker when I answered the door, the fact that the office tried to pass the blame on me for not knowing, and the price I was given. I double checked my call log, my voicemails, my emails and nothing. I will say the other worker today was awesome. His name was Angel. He is the only reason I am giving 2 stars. He was understanding, professional and courteous. Thank you Angel. I appreciate you being cool about it all. The lady on the phone was not rude. I just believe in customer service, and I think it could have been handled so much better.

When I say whoah, I mean WHOAH! Let me start by saying that I had another electrical company out about 2 weeks ago to fix my hall bathroom light. Fan worked, lights didn't. The tech that came out took apart a million things, had me follow him into the attic and then told me the master electrician was going to have to come out and take a look at it. "Probably a full house re-wire"...on a house that is only 6 years old. Here we are 2 weeks later. Nobody knows how to repair the issue. $400 - $1000+ was the estimate. Flash forward to today. I called McWhorter Electric located in Portland and the extremely pleasant and knowledgeable lady that answered the phone (on a Saturday) said she would have someone out in less than an hour. She wasn't kidding. 30 minutes later the A-TEAM showed up. I'm talking about David and Paul. Absolute rockstars. In 5 minutes they had figured out the problem...in less than 30 they were packed up to leave and I am in business. Let there be LIGHT! It was a simple faulty wall outlet issue. The weekend trip charge was $95 plus parts which was almost nothing. Tried to pay with my card. NOPE, the office invoices for your convenience. As a service provider ourselves (Advanced Pest Control...yes that was a shameless plug) I know quality when I see it, and the service is top notch. If I ever have another electrical issue, I will only call this company and pray for the A-Team. Slamdunk - Swoosh! Nothing but net. I am sure everyone else is great too. Thank you, thank you! Thanksgiving was going to be super weird with everyone either having to use the hall bathroom by candlelight or having everyone trapse in through our bedroom to use the master.

I had an issue with light over the stove. Was getting zapped all the time. I called these guys they sent someone out the next day and he had it fixed in 15 mins. Got to love it.
