Dallas County Power
Electrician · Garland, TX
About
Dallas County Power works out of Garland, Texas, as electricians who manage power delivery and connections for homes across the area. Local weather brings frequent storms that knock out lines and create urgent repair calls, so the company stays busy with service restorations and account setups for residents who lose power or need new hookups. Their role centers on keeping electricity flowing through the grid that serves the city, though the volume of daily issues from outages to billing disputes keeps them handling a steady stream of homeowner calls year round.
Customers describe problems like receiving a four hundred dollar surprise bill tied to an undetected leak that cut off service until payment cleared in person at the local office, or having power shut down on a Friday afternoon right before closing with no weekend support available even after a confirmation number showed on the account. Other calls involved a hearing impaired resident needing two people to take time off work just to confirm an application on site, while one long term account holder noted no outage stretching past two hours over twenty years plus easy extensions during tight months and a smooth name transfer after a spouse passed.
The low marks come from repeated complaints on billing errors that lead to shutoffs without notice, poor communication about account status, and requirements to visit offices in person during business hours only. A handful of reviews mention reliable short outage fixes and workable payment options when cash runs low, but the bulk point to slow responses and inflexible processes that frustrate people dealing with the local monopoly on service. What Customers Say
“This is actually insane we have a 450$ bill and we already paid it but because of a leak we weren’t notified about we have to pay 4000$ then show a reciept in person at a local GPL to have our lights turned on so no we will have to wait till the Winter Storm Passes by to pay our lights. This place sucks dont come to garland unless you’re in a area where power is provided by oncor”
“Paid my bill like normal last month, get the confirmation number and email, still shows in the website that I paid last month, but also says I have a past due bill of the exact same amount. Then my electricity gets shut off on a Friday right before they close, and they'reclosed all weekend. Have only lived here 4 months and this is the 2nd issue I've had with them. Don't ever live here if you have anyone that might be sensitive to the heat or cold, the city might just decide to euthanize them for you.”
“1 star is too many. Called for my hearing impaired family member. They want us to both take off work and go in person to verify they have his application. Worst customer service I have experienced. How can there be such a monopoly for electricity in Garland?”
“My husband and I have had GP&L for 20 years now. No issues ever. Customer service great. Never have had and outage last over 2 hours max. We've had to call them a handful of times to ask for an extention when money was tight, also no problem. When he passed last year I had to put my name on the bill and the lady that helped me behind the desk was so kind. I broke down in tears and she kept asking if I was ok. Thank you GP&L for your service. God bless each and every one of you! -Norma Hill P.S The online payment option is amazing. $2 is quite low of a service fee to pay online and another great reason why I love GP&L. This is very convenient!”
“The staff is friendly and quick to help. Someone always answers the phone. They are patient with me, I have called a few times today and not one time have them seemed annoyed about it like most places.”
