Being that I’m not an electrician I started calling around for electricians, 2 which never called back. My wife said we just received the Five Star Rated 2026 Montgomery County Homeowner Referral Guidebook, we found Mr Sparky and decided to give them a call. They immediately answered the phone and had someone scheduled the next morning. They texted updates and confirmed the appointment then sent the bio of the electrician. Larry was the electrician that was sent to our home and after listening to my description of the issues he informed us of what he was going to do to find the issue with costs, after our approval he began working. After finding the issue he had it fixed within an hour. He then replaced 3 bad light switches of which one of them had burned and we didn’t even know it. “My MIL is recently widowed and the power went out in the home. She called Mr. Sparky to come figure it out. The electrician needed to speak with the power company to figure out the issue but was eager to look for more issues in the home, and he found them to the tune of $5,000. Thinking that this work had to be completed and that it must be related to the much larger issue, my MIL agreed to the work. The work itself arguably needed to be done at some point in time, and was done well, that’s not my complaint. The issue is that Mr. Sparky took advantage of the situation, a frantic Widow without power said yes to work that was not related because she didn’t know what else to do. Secondly, and this is just Mr. Sparky’s business model, they are about 3-4 times as much as any other electrician charges. For comparison, Mr. Sparky quoted $13,000 to resolve the power issue. Two other electricians quoted between $3,500 and $4,200 for the same job. TLDR: They will charge you 3-4X the amount you should pay, and will use their position as the professional to take advantage of anyone willing to trust them.”
