About

San Antonio Water System handles utility work out of San Antonio, TX with crews that manage electrical setups on pumps and plants feeding the local water network. The company runs the infrastructure that moves water through the city and deals with the constant demands of Texas heat and growing neighborhoods that strain both lines and motors. Electricians on their teams keep the equipment running so homeowners get steady pressure without sudden outages or equipment failures. They cover daily checks and larger repairs on the systems that connect to houses across the area. This setup means calls often mix water line fixes with the electrical work needed to power the whole operation.

Crews respond to leak reports by checking houses for running toilets or hidden drips even when residents are away and send alerts through their system when meters detect flow. Billing staff ask for driver's license details and push online sign ups before giving out amounts or explaining fees during phone calls. Notifications about property leaks have lagged as long as three weeks in some cases leaving water running unchecked until customers notice higher usage. High pressure in certain neighborhoods has forced repeated replacements of pressure relief valves on home systems within short periods. These jobs show up often because the utility grid pushes too hard on older valves and lines.

Homeowners keep pointing out slow leak alerts poor pressure control and extra steps for basic bill questions as the main problems that pile up over time. The pattern shows up in repeated complaints about delays and added costs from unchecked flow or valve swaps that could have been avoided with faster action. Speed and communication fall short when issues drag on without clear updates or adjustments to bills after problems surface late. Quality of the overall service takes hits from the same pressure and notification shortfalls that force extra work on residents. DIRT Score 1.98 from 333 reviews on Finds.

What Customers Say

I continue to receive leak notifications, and the one that came through this morning occurred when no one was home. To be sure, I walked through the house and checked all areas—no toilets running, no laundry (again, no one was home to run any), and no sink leaks. I believe SAWS needs to send someone out to check the meter, as this has been a recurring issue since its replacement. A major leak was initially discovered due to the meter being replaced, and the ongoing notifications are concerning. I have requested assistance multiple times, yet no action has been taken by SAWS beyond continued alerts of high usage when no one is home. This company is a monopoly in SA so of course this message will go unanswered but here it is all the same. (It was also sent directly to SAWS)

When calling to get my bill info, and some details, they wanted my driver's license, and for me to sign up on their website for further verification. I refused, because i just wanted my bill amount, and questions about some fees, i went back and forth with the customer service, the customer service lady's final advise was "well, maybe you should open your own water company!"

SAWS knew about a water leak on my property starting December 11th but did not notify me until after December 29th. That’s nearly three weeks of continuous leaking that I would have shut off immediately if I had been informed. When I called to ask for a discounted rate due to the delayed notification, I was told that leak notifications are only a “courtesy” and that I am still responsible for the full bill or must go on a payment plan. It’s frustrating that SAWS holds a monopoly on water service in San Antonio, yet offers no accountability when they fail to notify customers in a timely manner. Being forced to pay for three weeks of wasted water that I didn’t even know about (it was underground) is unacceptable customer service

This company operates like a monopoly with zero accountability, and it shows in how they treat their customers. The water pressure in our neighborhood is so excessive that I’ve had to replace two pressure relief valves in just two years. This should not be happening under normal conditions! What’s even more frustrating is that SAWS refuses to take responsibility. Instead, they shift the blame onto homeowners, despite the fact that multiple neighbors are experiencing the exact same issue and dealing with the same repeated costs. When an entire neighborhood is facing the same problem, it’s not a coincidence—it’s a system issue. Yet there’s no resolution, no ownership, and no real recourse because customers have no alternative provider. It’s incredibly frustrating to be forced into relying on a service where there’s no competition, no accountability, and no incentive to fix ongoing problems. This situation needs serious attention.

Truly one the most incompetent utility providers. Nearly impossible to get a hold of someone over the phone, endless automated menus, archaic website, rampant overcharges. A program that consists of photographing residential properties at night to monitor lawn watering usage. One of the most egregiously wasteful budgets and poorly run utilities in the country. Entire leadership should be fired and budget thoroughly audited.
