Jim Gray'S Heating & Air Conditioning
HVAC Contractor · Austin, TX
About
Jim Gray's Heating & Air Conditioning operates out of Austin, TX as a local outfit handling HVAC work for both homes and businesses. They cover the full range of heating and cooling needs in a city where summer heat and occasional winter cold snaps keep systems running hard. The crew stays available around the clock for calls that come in at odd hours, focusing on repairs, service visits, and installations that keep indoor temperatures steady. Homeowners in the area deal with units that fail during peak heat, and this company steps in to address those breakdowns without requiring appointments booked weeks ahead.
They handle weekend emergencies such as air conditioners blowing only warm air, sending technicians like Michael to arrive promptly the next morning and restore cooling. Follow-up calls from staff like Albert check that the fix held, while other jobs include routine maintenance on residential units and furnace repairs when heating elements stop working. Technicians named Juan have been noted for polite handling of service calls, and the team tackles both quick fixes on older systems and broader work on commercial setups. In practice this means responding to no-cool complaints in July or addressing units that run nonstop yet fail to drop the temperature below ninety degrees inside.
Customers have pointed to fast arrivals during true emergencies and clear explanations from certain techs as the strong points, yet the overall record shows repeated issues with missed maintenance appointments, high charges on labor that go unexplained, and multiple return visits that leave problems unsolved like an AC still dead after four days of service. Complaints about unanswered phones over holiday weekends and poor follow-through on pricing questions pull the marks down across the board. DIRT Score 2.15 from 16 reviews on Finds.

What Customers Say
“Have only good things to say about Grays, had a weekend emergency with AC only blowing warm air. The answering service relayed message and by next morning (Sunday) the Technician (Michael?) was prompt & addressed the issue. Albert even followed up with a call. Michael was so polite and provided us with future information. I would certainly recommend them”
“Scheduled for a/c maintenance and they were a “no-show” even with a follow-up call from me. I agree with another review that the phone person for the Las Cruces area has no people skills. Previous service from Gray was great but not any more.”
“Price gougers! Rest assure if you need help with your furnace Gray's Heating & Plumbing will desert their customers if you ask for them to explain their labor. And though it is your prerogative to ghost your customers rather than explain your pricing, it is mine to call you out for it. Charging for each individual visit for what you can do in one visit, as verified by your technician, is not good customer service. You really expect me to pay almost $400 more just because you want to charge a travel charge for each visit? That's price gouging, plain and simple.”
“I am sitting here in the sweltering heat with my house at 90 degrees. Gray was here on Friday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the A/C is not working at all. Now it is Friday July 5th and they are not answering their phone. Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be horrible in this heat. On Monday, someone has to fix this problem. Since they did replace a bad motor I can give them two stars but with the A/C not working it is unforgiveable. Called Gray all Saturday and the on call person did not answer his phone. Called SUN CITY and at 5:30 pm, my problems were solved. The system lacked refrigerant - five pounds. How that escaped Gray Cooling, the authorized dealer for my A/C is beyond me. Forget about Gray, Call Sun City for expert service.”
“If i could give 0 stars I would. I had to wait 6 days for a part to come in for my ac. The repairman said he needed another part to finish the repair, and would come back the next day with the part. Next day was a Friday, and he never showed. In total myself and my family (2 young kids) have been without ac for 10 days in the middle of summer IF he shows on Monday. The repair has not been done, and we have heard no update from Gray AC during this entire time. Terrible customer service.”
