“UPDATE: HOUK has still not reached out to us about anything. We ended up having to get an attorney involved. I am disgusted, defeated, and desperate for help. My family and I have owned our home for nearly seven years. It was a new build, and Houk AC worked with our builder to install the HVAC system. Since the beginning, we have had the same recurring issue every summer: our vents sweat. For years, Houk has come out, performed temporary fixes, and sealed sweating vents, only for the same problem to return again the next summer. This year, the issue is worse than it has ever been. On the 9th, Houk came out again. The technician told me we needed a new thermostat because ours supposedly was not reading humidity correctly. I was quoted $150 for the thermostat. The technician also performed the same type of vent sealing Houk has done in the past, took my credit card, I signed for payment, and I believed everything was handled. About a week later, the vents started sweating again this time so badly that water was pooling around multiple vents. I called Houk and was told several things that directly contradicted what had just happened and what Houk has done for us for years. First, I was told I still needed to pay for the prior visit, even though I had already provided my credit card and signed for payment. Then I was told the thermostat I had been quoted $150 for would now actually cost between $500 and $700. I was also told Houk would not come back out to fix or seal any more vents because “they don’t do that,” even though Houk has sealed our vents for years and had just done so during the prior visit. Because of these contradictions, I told Houk I no longer felt comfortable doing business with them. After going back and forth, Houk eventually agreed to discount the thermostat back down to $150, stated that they could seal vents after all but only for an added charge, and said they would come back out to evaluate the problem if we paid another dispatch fee. At that point, we agreed because the issue was urgent. After days of continued sweating vents, we now have visible mold around multiple vents, including in my toddler’s room and in the room for our baby, who is due any day. When Houk finally returned, we were told their measurements were “perfect,” they could not determine what was wrong, and there was nothing they could really do. We were then told again that they could not seal the vents. This entire situation has been unacceptable. My family is living in a home where the thermostat is currently showing 90% indoor humidity, with visible mold around vents in rooms used by my toddler and expected newborn. Houk installed this HVAC system, has been aware of this same recurring issue for years, has repeatedly applied temporary fixes, and now appears unwilling or unable to provide a real solution. I am requesting immediate escalation to management and a written response explaining: 1. Why this recurring sweating vent and humidity issue has never been permanently resolved. 2. Why Houk’s statements about payment, thermostat pricing, and vent sealing changed repeatedly. 3. What Houk intends to do to identify the root cause of the excessive humidity and condensation. 4. Whether Houk will take responsibility for the areas where repeated condensation has now resulted in visible mold. 5. Whether Houk will provide documentation of all prior service visits, technician notes, invoices, payments attempted or processed, and recommendations made regarding this issue. This is no longer a minor comfort issue. This is a moisture, mold, and indoor air quality issue affecting my wife, my toddler, and our expected newborn. I need a written response and immediate resolution.”

“Very good experience from getting the quote to having the installation completed in a neat and professional manner. I found the installation crew to be polite and focused on doing the best job possible for me on the installation. They went out of their way to keep me in the loop on the progress of the job. On completion, they showed me how to operate the new system in a manner that I could understand. Cost wise, the HOUK quote was the lowest and most long-term cost efficient of the multiple quotes I received. This is the second total HVAC system that HOUK has installed at my home. The first Trane system I bought from them last 18+ years. Highly recommend.”

He took the time to explain how his company would take care of us, the technical aspects of the installation, and the followup after the install. He built my confidence quickly and answered all followup questions via email/texts. The two Houk installers, Jesse and Jose, were polite and professional. They answered all my questions and took care to protect our home by wearing shoe covers and covering the work area with drop cloths. After finishing the install, they thoroughly cleaned the work space. Houk AC was great and I would recommend them to anyone who needs anything related to HVAC. One other person who answered my initial call for help was Scott Fowler. He is an experienced manager who responded quickly to my enquiries and put the whole installation process in motion. Hats off to all the folks at Houk AC.”
