About

Better Heating & Air Conditioning handles HVAC work for homeowners across San Antonio, TX. They focus on keeping systems running through the area's hot summers and occasional cold snaps that put heavy loads on equipment. The company has built a steady presence by taking on full installations, regular maintenance calls, and add-on fixes like Flood Stop devices on water heaters. Long-term customers have stuck with them for multiple system swaps and ongoing service visits, even when minor issues like drywall repairs came up during jobs. Their approach stays grounded in getting the core mechanical problems solved without unnecessary extras.

Technicians such as Gregory, Shotter, and Andrew handle the day-to-day calls. Gregory tracked down and corrected an airflow problem that had persisted for eight years in one home. Shotter moved fast on diagnostics, walked through each step with the homeowner, and avoided any push for new equipment or duct cleaning when it was not needed. Andrew shows up on short notice for weekend or holiday breakdowns and keeps charges flat without overtime markups. The crew routinely manages complete HVAC replacements, twice-yearly tune-ups, and targeted repairs that keep older units working instead of forcing full swaps. Homeowners note the crew arrives prepared, finishes the mechanical work cleanly, and leaves the system balanced without lingering callbacks.

Customers keep coming back because the team shows up quickly even on nights and holidays, fixes root causes instead of patching symptoms, and stays straightforward on costs with no surprise add-ons. Reviews highlight consistent communication during the job and fair pricing that beats competitors who jump straight to big replacements. Speed on emergency calls, solid workmanship on installs and maintenance, and clear explanations without sales pressure add up across hundreds of jobs. DIRT Score 4.79 from 251 reviews on Finds.

What Customers Say

I was a loyal A Better Deal customer for nearly 8 years: two complete HVAC installations, regular semi-annual maintenance, Flood Stop installation on my water heaters, and consistent use of their services throughout. I stayed with them through drywall damage during installation, a water leak caused by their 2023 downstairs installation, and a drainage line blockage that took multiple visits to resolve. I recommended them to others in my community. I share this because what followed is not the experience a customer with that history deserves. In June 2025, an ABD technician performed spring maintenance on my upstairs unit, checked pressures, and noted "no problems found," despite my direct complaint that the unit wasn't putting out enough cold air. The technician recommended hosing down the condenser unit but said he was too tired to do it himself and left without completing it. ABD billed $449.90 for that visit. Nine months later, in March 2026, ABD diagnosed a substantial evaporator coil leak in the same upstairs unit, a unit installed by ABD in spring 2018. They denied lifetime warranty coverage citing gaps in my maintenance history, despite the fact that their own warranty requires ABD to contact customers each spring and fall to schedule maintenance. When I asked owner Andrew to provide call logs showing he had contacted me during gap years, he responded "take me to court." I also discovered that ABD never registered my unit with Lennox after installation. The Lennox warranty portal shows "Installation Date: Not Applicable" meaning 8 years of manufacturer warranty protection was potentially lost due to ABD's failure to register the equipment they installed. I made documented attempts to resolve this with Andrew from March 6 through March 25, 2026; multiple texts, a phone call where he committed to researching the Lennox warranty and calling back the next day, a call to the office, and a formal email. No response was ever received. I was forced to hire another licensed HVAC contractor at my own expense. ABD continues sending automated invoice reminders for the incomplete March 2026 maintenance visit while refusing to engage on the warranty dispute. I gave A Better Deal every reasonable opportunity to make this right. They chose not to. I am sharing this so other homeowners can make an informed decision.

Gregory was outstanding. The best HVAC person we’ve ever had at our home. Gregory fixed an issue that’s been going on for the past 8 years! Outstanding work.

I am so impressed with the honesty, transparency, and expertise of A Better Deal, and Shotter in particular. There was no pressure or attempt to upsell. He worked quickly and explained his process along the way. Another company immediately tried to sell me a new unit and duct cleaning. Shotter listened to our needs and made the repair for a few hundred bucks instead of $9,500. Can’t say enough good things about this family-owned company.

This is the BEST company for AC repair. ALWAYS out asap, even weekends/holidays/nightime.....never ever have charged extra. Can't recommend them enough!! Andrew has built a true customer service 1st business.

Gregory was great. He troubleshooted the problem very quickly and came back the next day to replace the unit that failed and patiently walked me through the app to learn how to control the temperature and access features. Gregory is knowledgeable and kind. Thank you.
