About
First Response Cooling & Mechanical Llc operates out of McAllen, Texas, and handles HVAC work throughout the Rio Grande Valley. They cover residential and commercial properties with air conditioning repairs, heating fixes, system installations, and broader mechanical services for warehouses and businesses. Same-day appointments and 24/7 emergency dispatch form the core of how they operate, especially during peak summer heat when units fail without warning. The company stays licensed for refrigerant handling and focuses on quick response to keep indoor conditions stable in South Texas homes and facilities.
Technicians like Wiley Faulkerson handle attic work on older units, such as a 2007 model that he restored in roughly an hour through clear diagnostics and direct fixes. Tyler Word has taken late calls after 5:30 in the afternoon and completed repairs the same day while walking owners through the steps. Wiley also provides second opinions on suspected AC leaks and checks commercial systems in Edinburg to prevent downtime. These jobs range from basic cooling restarts to full mechanical troubleshooting on larger setups, with crews arriving ready to address whatever broke that day.
Homeowners and business operators consistently note fast arrivals even on short notice, honest explanations of problems without extra charges, and repairs that hold up in the local climate. Reviews highlight same-day service during summer failures, solid communication from the first call through completion, and fair pricing that avoids unnecessary upsells. The work shows up in steady commercial maintenance and quick residential turnarounds that restore comfort without delays. DIRT Score 5.0 from 289 reviews on Finds.

What Customers Say
“Edit: talked to the new ownership that now has the name. Alan was helpful in explaining the situation. I think they’ll treat you well. I’d avoid the other company Tyler Word started “Hey There Heating and Air”, he has has been going after the new owners client list. The old owner Tyler is very dishonest. Feel bad for the new owners having to deal with his problems. My experience with Tyler Word of “Hey there Heating and Air” below: Don’t do the maintenance plan unless you are able to always schedule it timely. Account was charged $15/month till they changed to Hey There heating and air. Paid since 2022 May 2nd. Only scheduled 1 appointment and thought a credit of was applied to my account. Nope. Atleast $450 plus gone and not willing to honor even a simple maintenance visit. Also spent over $640 on the first visit they came by. Service was good so we signed up on maintenance plan. Although that visit Spencer kept acting like the AC was about to go. It has been running fine till last week which I simply vacuumed my line with shop vac to clear it and filled it back up with a glass of water. We just wanted a simple check, maybe new filter and cleaning of the fins in the unit takes 1-2 hours. I would’ve even been fine if Tyler offered to call it even with that. But he just refused then tried to over explain the contract. My fault for not scheduling maintenance though and assumed small business weren’t that greedy. Essentially that one initial call and 1 maintenance visit cost us over $1000. Don’t do the maintenance plans. Service is good just wish integrity was better”
“Excellent customer service from the initial call to set up an appointment to the clear communication of the time of service (same day) Our technician Wiley did a fantastic job and got our 2007 unit up and running in about an hour. I know it’s part of his job but the dedication to be in the attic and outside in the heat shows that he really cares about the customers and I will continue to call his team when we have HVAC issues. Thank you Wiley and team members”
“Had a second opinion for a concern about a possible AC leak by Wiley Faulkerson. I’ve been with the previous company for 2 years but it seems like something changed with their practices. I knew I needed a second opinion so glad I was able to get Wiley as my technician. He went above and beyond by taking me along during the service appointment and showing me everything he was doing and even educated along the way. At the end we sat down and went over several options that would address the findings and he didn’t just try to upsell the highest ticket item he provided more affordable options. This felt a lot more genuine than the first company that came out and not so sales gimmicky. Also had a much better pricing for a higher grade replacement option which ultimately provided me and my husband more peace of mind. Safe to say I’m ditching the first company and switching to 1st Response for my hvac replacement and annual maintenance plan!”
“Tyler Word of 1st Response AC & Heating, Inc. should get a raise. I called for a repair after work around 5:30pm in the afternoon and 1st Response was able to see me the very same day. In the Texas summer this company was a real God send. Tyler even took the time to walk me through the repairs and teach me about my AC system every step of the way! The service was not rushed in any way and Tyler stayed until the repair was completed and I was happy with the service. I was so impressed that I signed up for their service program at only 20 dollars per month. Just from that one visit 1st Response has gained my trust. I look forward to doing business with them in the future!”
“1st Response is easy to work with and very responsive! Tyler helped me fix one of my heating issues over the phone free of charge. For the other, he came out the same day and replaced a part in my air handler in less than an hour. He also gave great recommendations for improvements to extend the life of my systems. I will definitely be calling 1st Response next time I need AC/heat repairs!”
