About

Ray Austin owns and operates Austin Air Companie, an HVAC company based in Katy that covers the Houston area and nearby spots like Cypress and Richmond. He got into the trade in 1994, finished trade school with a degree in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration in 1996, and has worked on his own since 1999 after getting his Texas license nearly a decade later. The focus stays on residential systems up to 25 tons with some redesign work for better efficiency on homes. Ray keeps hours from early morning through evening every day of the week.

Austin Air Companie handles air conditioning service and repair along with heating work and zoning adjustments for homes around Houston. Ray Austin shows up for maintenance checks twice a year under contract and responds fast when systems break, like the time an AC unit quit blowing cold air on a Sunday and he arrived within an hour to get it running again. He also sorts out tricky zoning problems that other outfits could not pin down after multiple visits. Calls for after hours issues get handled too, such as a Thursday night fix when something went wrong with the system. Homeowners reach out for diagnosis on units that lose cooling or have uneven room temperatures, and the company takes those residential jobs with an eye on getting equipment back online.

Customers note solid speed when Ray gets to jobs quick and shows up as promised, along with honest talk that avoids extra work. Quality holds up on repairs like AC fixes and zoning but slips when diagnosis misses the mark and leaves issues unresolved after payment. Price feedback stays limited but the overall mix lands at this level after ten reviews. DIRT Score 2.85 from 10 reviews on Finds.

What Customers Say

Very poor service. Paid for them to come diagnosis the problem, they got the diagnosis wrong, took the money, and ultimately the problem persist and imm down $300. Their response, "These things happen." Total waste of time and money...highly discourage use of this company. If the "professional" would have clearly communicated that the thermostat was most likely the issue, we would have opted to just invest in a new thermostat. Ultimately, I ended up paying someone to tell me that the thing is "janky" then expecting me (the customer) to infer what that means and how to address it. Most professionals, myself included, would have started with "since the original question is about the thermostat, yes i do believe it may be time ti replace it.... ALSO, your system could benefit from a flush." Instead, this guy, said the thing is "janky" AFTER charging me to address an unrelated (but admittedly important) problem .

I have been a customer of Mr. Austin for several years now. He is trustworthy and very honest. He doesn't recommend something unless it is truly needed. I have a maintenance contract with him and he comes out twice a year to check our system. He even came out on a Thursday night when we had an issue with our HVAC system. I would highly recommend using his service.

Austin did a great job fixing our ac unit! Our AC stopped blowing cold air Sunday morning. We called eight different AC companies, and he was the only one able to arrive on the same day! After we called him he was able to arrive in an hour. He was very knowledgable, and able to fix out AC unit the same day. I would recommend him 10/10!

I highly recommend Ray. We had many issues with the zoning in a house we moved into about a year ago. I called many different major HVAC repair companies numerous times for a solution. Each one would have a different answer to the problems we were having without ever listening to us or spending more than 15min investigating. We even had two dampers replaced as an attempt to solve it. Two different companies said the solution was a brand new system in the ~$30K range. After reading Ray's blogs and discussions on Houzz I asked him to come all the way out to the woodlands. I am glad he did. He took the time to listen to what we had to say and spent a long time investigating. Ultimately he found a solution that would likely work and made sense with what we were observing with the zoning. It requiring rezoning and some modulating arm. Regardless after completion we weren't a 100% confident it would fix the problems completely since the weather was great in March and we couldn't test it under stress from the heat. We are now at the tail end of this heat wave and I can say for sure it work really well. Thank you Ray!

You’re right you don’t have me in your files. House is under my fiancés name. You don’t deserve an explanation. Very unprofessional. Stay away from this guy!
