“I called today, July 9, 2026, at approximately 9:00 AM, to help my 90-year-old mother establish services and schedule services. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. I explained to the representative that my mother is hard of hearing and prefers to communicate in Spanish(we are mix Arab and Mexican). I was told they could not speak with me or even create an account or schedule an appointment because they had to speak directly with my mother the owner of the house. I explained multiple times that she has significant hearing loss and that even hearing devices are not effective for her. The representative responded that they had Spanish-speaking staff available. I clarified again that the issue was not the language alone—it was my mother’s severe hearing impairment. Despite this, I was repeatedly told, “It’s our policy.” I asked where I could read this policy online, and I was told it was an internal policy. I then requested to speak with a manager, but instead of transferring me, I was simply told again, “It’s our policy.” As both a healthcare professional and a business owner, I fully understand the need for policies and procedures. However, good policies should also account for exceptional circumstances, particularly when caring for elderly patients and individuals with disabilities. There should be a compassionate and practical process for family members who are trying to help aging parents access services any type of services . To be clear, no one at the company made any inappropriate comments about my mother’s language. The real issue is that she has severe hearing loss, making it extremely difficult for her to communicate over the phone regardless of the language being spoken.
