South Plains College
HVAC Contractor · Lubbock, TX
About
South Plains College serves homeowners and businesses across Hockley County, Texas, through its Heating, AC and Refrigeration Technology program known as HART. The school focuses on practical HVAC skills that address the heavy demands of Texas summers and cold snaps, training people to handle residential and light commercial systems. Alumni and current students note the straightforward approach that gets workers ready for real field conditions without unnecessary extras, drawing from the local economy where reliable cooling and heating keep homes livable year round.
Technicians coming out of the program handle installations, repairs, and maintenance on units that break down from dust, high use, or age. Chad Trammell, an alumnus, highlighted how the professors deliver solid guidance that translates directly to the job. Audrey Jean, who finished in 2019, described the support that helped her master the material while building connections useful later on. Spencer Sosebee ran into delays reaching the admin office after leaving messages, showing that response times vary. Kimberly Bouldin pointed out the practical start the place gives for those entering the trade, with fair costs that fit what local homeowners expect for straightforward fixes like compressor swaps or duct work.
Customers consistently note strong work quality that holds up in daily use and pricing that stays reasonable without surprise markups. The reviews show clear value in the training outcomes, even when admin follow-up takes extra effort. This combination of hands-on results and cost control builds steady trust among those needing HVAC help in the area. DIRT Score 4.44 from 116 reviews on Finds.

What Customers Say
“I am an alumni here. The professors are great and admin/faculty are very helpful. Definitely a place to be proud of and to be greatful it exists. Really great experience here.”
“I graduated from South Plains College in 2019 before transferring to Texas Tech. I truly loved my experience here. The professors and staff were amazing! I felt challenged yet supported in every class. I also made some lifelong friends during my time here. I would recommend starring your college journey here at SPC.”
“You're admin office is EXTREMELY LACKING. I called on Thursday left a message followed by emails, only to still not be called back, ALMOST A WEEK LATER, I had too call yall again, this is TERRIBLE SERVICE, AND AN UTTER LACK OF CARE OR CONCERN”
“Best place to get started on your education. Plus we are fun!”
“I graduated from here before transferring to Texas Tech, and I so enjoyed my experience. SPC is about a third of the price of Tech, and the quality of the education is very high. Being that it is a small school, the professors take the time to get to know you and work with you which, in my experience, helps set you up for academic success. Plus, the gym has good equipment and the cafeteria food is actually really appetizing.”
