About

Amigos Residential Service operates as a veteran-owned HVAC outfit right in San Antonio. John, an Air Force veteran with twenty years supervising air conditioning and heating at the old Kelly AFB plus later stints with the National Science Foundation and Veterans Administration, started the company after that long stretch in civil engineering and planning. They handle both heating and cooling work for local homes, stay licensed and insured under the state of Texas, and focus on straightforward installation and repair jobs that keep systems running without extra headaches. Homeowners in the area know they can reach them for reliable service on everything from routine maintenance to full system swaps.

Their crews show up for annual air conditioning check-ups, fix clogged water drains that cause overflow problems, repair loud motors after inspectors flag issues, and install complete new heating and cooling setups when old units finally give out. Technicians like John, along with Big John, Little John, and Brother James, handle the work on site by diagnosing the actual problem first then quoting a clear range so there are no surprises once they open things up. Customers note the team clears blockages in overflow mechanisms at newer properties, tunes up units that have been neglected, and gets everything back online without dragging the job out over multiple visits.

Folks keep coming back because the prices land well below what competitors quote for the same repair and tune-up items, the estimates stay honest even when the exact motor source needs checking, and the service moves fast enough to avoid turning a simple call into a drawn-out ordeal. Reviews mention solid communication from the start, clean work on both check-ups and drain clogs, and no pushy upsells when a full system replacement comes up. That steady record of fair pricing, solid fixes, and on-time results adds up across the board. DIRT Score 5.0 from 73 reviews on Finds.

What Customers Say

In response to an inspector's report, I compared prices for an HVAC unit repair and tune-up, and Amigo's came in WELL under a competitor's price for the items that needed done. The estimate was provided within a range, due to uncertainty about the source of a loud AC motor ... but as it turned out, John (and his assistant, the other John) were able to find the part on-hand from a trusted supplier -- which meant the final bill came in EVEN LOWER than their low-end estimate. Additionally, Amigo's came ontime, did the work without any fuss, and was quick an efficient. John came back again a few days later (after a power surge caused by an unrelated issue) -- on a Sunday -- and did a follow-up service for free to make sure everything was working great. Highly recommend this service, and greatly appreciate your friendliness, quick turnaround and pricing!

When I finally accepted the fact that I needed a new air conditioning system, I braced myself for the nightmare that was about to ensue of dealing with outrageous quotes from all the AC companies. You know, the ones that come to your home in their nicely painted vans, give you a crazy quote on a brand new system and then immediately want to discuss financing. But with John at Amigos LLC, there was none of that. He's a down to earth guy, explained my options and gave me a very fair price. The professional installation happened quickly and he really seems to care about the quality of his work. Would definitely recommend and use again.

Once upon a time, three men came into our home, our hearts, and our lives. There was Big John, Little John, and Brother James. My wife had gone online to look for someone to service our air conditioning unit at a newer property, where the overflow mechanism was not working because of a blockage; water had begun dripping from the attic to the second floor below. Tools in hand, Big John came by, diagnosed and fixed the problem, telling me what the problem was and later explained how he had resolved the problem. Although I was not familiar with much of the terminology, he patiently explained the issue, giving me a general idea of what had happened. We were so impressed with his work at the newer property that we agreed to hire him to install two new air conditioning units at an older property. All homeowners are skeptical about letting strangers come into their home. We were no exceptions; we had to build a foundation of trust. We trusted him to come into our home and provide us a service compatible to the payment required. Big John made us feel psychologically safe. He trusted us to pay him for the service rendered, saying later we don’t leave until our customers are satisfied or until the job is done or both! The first contact at the new property was the foundation up which we continued to build the trust between us, in such a short time. The 10-year+ units (Carriers) at the older property had gone out at least 5 months beforehand, and I was looking for a contractor who could not only give us a good quote but who could also do the job in a timely manner. Big John worked with us, finding ways that he could reduce the initial quote so that it was budget friendly. Thanks, Big John! On the first day (07/17), Big John came with his crew: Little John and Brother James. They worked from 9:00 am to about 8:00 pm, having run into an issue, breaking off for the day. The heat got to Brother James, but Big John assured me that Brother James would be okay. Minus Brother James, recuperating from the day before, Big John and Little John were on the job the next day, outside in the hot sun and upstairs in that hellish attic! Both Big John and Little John—father and son—told me that they had resolved the problem encountered the day before. Their excitement became my excitement! They had arrived around 9:15 am, leaving that day (07/18) around 5:30 pm, the 2-ton 14 Seer Goodman unit installed. The Amigos crew came back on Monday, 07/21, around 10:00 am, this time to install the 4-ton 14 Seer Goodman unit. Brother James was refreshed, ready to complete the project. I said to him, “Now, Brother, make sure you take a break from time to time!” Once the entire project was finished, Big John indicated that there was a slight issue with a mechanism on one of the units and that he would return sometime the following week and fix the problem. We were happy that two Goodman units were up and running, the old house cooling down once again! “Amigos” has been a special word to me way before I met Big John and his crew. When I was at least 7 years old, a Mexican family (La familia Garcia) moved into our neighborhood. One of the sons (Jorge) became a dear friend! I wanted him to teach me Spanish, and the very first word he taught me was “amigo” and we became amigos! Very much like Big John and his crew, I felt psychologically safe with Jorge, who often invited me to their home to eat Mexican food. In brief, Big John and his crew deserve 5 stars! If Big John and his crew read this review, I hope they feel as proud, thankful, and happy as my family and I feel! We pray and hope that our relationship will continue for many years to come! It may not be right for me to say, but they are like the Apostles of Air Conditioning! They made me a believer, somewhat skeptical at first! For the sake of my family, I can only have people in my home who bring peace and goodwill! Thanks AMIGOS! May God bless your company to grow and prosper! Amen!

Excellent service. Got annual ac check up; also took care of clogged water drain. Very satisfied with our ac proffessional John at Amigos Air Conditioning & Heating. Highly recommend them.

When I had an unexpected thermostat programming issue in the evening, John promptly headed over to the house to solve the problem under one hour. John was responsive, reliable, communicative, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. I’ll definitely be reaching out to John again if I have any future heater or AC related issues. Thanks John
