About

USA Air Conditioning and Heating handles HVAC repairs, installations and service calls around San Antonio. Bobby runs the day to day work with Karla handling office communication and scheduling. The outfit takes on home warranty jobs for AC and heating units plus some straight customer installs like UV lights and full systems. They cover spots out toward Canyon Lake and Median Lake when customers call in.

Reviewers describe techs showing up for quick scans on units that turn into claims about dirty coils, leaking coils or bad compressors. Some jobs got fixed fast when Bobby brought a capacitor or thermostat part on the truck. Others dragged on for weeks with multiple visits, one case where the wrong coil got swapped and another where a diagnosis got blamed on a storm that never happened. A few customers noted clean work areas after father and son crews finished an install and no surprise fees on the bill.

The shop keeps hours from nine to five on weekdays and stays closed on weekends. Calls and texts go through Karla for scheduling, though some customers waited days for follow up after the first visit. Bobby often handles the on site explanations and options, and the crew will drive out to farther spots without pushing back on the location. Pricing came in lower than two other quotes for one full install, but other jobs involved extra charges or canceled appointments without notice.

Plenty of reviews flag problems with return calls after payment, units that stopped working soon after service, and repeated issues on warranty claims. A handful of customers praised the speed on simple fixes and the lack of pressure during the visit. DIRT Score 1.9 from 30 reviews on Finds.

What Customers Say

“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ SA Cool Zone was sent out through my home warranty, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. They stayed in touch the entire time, kept me updated on appointment scheduling, and let me know when they were on the way. The issue was fixed quickly, and they handled all communication with the warranty company so I didn’t have to deal with them myself. They also took the time to explain what went wrong and what was done to fix it. I would use them again even without the warranty, excellent service all around!”

Bryan Brown

“I would not recommend this company. They’re within the American Home Shields network network. Showed up, removed the indoor panel, scanned for a few seconds, replaced panel. Moved outside, removed panel, I provided information, he used no diagnostic tools, used the info I provided, closed it up, said it was what I stated, attributed it to a storm, despite no storm days before, during, or after his visit, resulting in the claim being denied. Avoid at all costs.”

“Be careful if you are getting a Reme Halo UV light via this company. I’m giving this 2 stars because my experience is mixed. Bobby is a nice guy, and he’s in business to make money by providing a service. However, the priority seems to be revenue first and service second. I learned, two years late, that management (Karla) and what Bobby says don’t match. Bobby sold us on installing UV lights two years ago, and a month after the warranty expired the UV bulbs failed. My wife emailed and texted Karla with no reply. I finally reached Bobby, who said he would check the bulb warranty. Ten days passed with no update. I followed up and this time spoke with Karla. She told me bulbs have a two-year warranty and quoted $425 to replace a bulb. That differed from what Bobby had explained, so I asked for parts and labor. She said it was a flat rate. Bobby had told me $75 for labor/service and $350 for two bulbs. One bulb from non-verified distributors runs up to about $150, which implies the $350 is for two bulbs, not one, and their markup would be about $25 to $50, not $200. If they try to sell you a Reme Halo UV light, be careful, because you may get price gouged. Lastly, this is sad bec”

“Our home warranty company (AHS) sent SA Cool Zone out to our home last month. I’ve had problems in the past with some of AHS contractors so I looked them up and was honestly a little nervous based off the past reviews. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Karla and Bobby were great, friendly, and fast. They came out to Canyon Lake Thursday for the initial diagnosis and were back by Tuesday with the part in hand and got the AC fixed within an hour. We’re happy with the service, thank you!”

“Living out by Median Lake it can be hard to find a company that will make the trip out this far. I was referred to SA Cool Zone by a friend. When I called and mentioned my location they were not phased and offered to come out the next day to look at the problem. Bobby came out the next day, assessed the situation, explained the issue and offered a few options. I felt no pressure from Bobby to make a choice at that time but let’s face it, Bobby had the Texas heat on his side. We agreed upon an option that he could immediately fix because he had the parts on his truck. An hour later everything was working. It’s been 7 months and everything is still working without issues.”

“Home Warranty of America (now Choice Home Warranty) sent them to my house to repair the A/C. The service man wasted no time inc collecting the $75 service fee. We went outside where he barely looked at the condenser unit and said it was dirty. We had gone ahead and paid our own service man to put in a capacitor just 3 days earlier and I watched him clean the condenser so I knew it wasn't dirty. The guy argued with me and said that it needed to be cleaned before he could work on it and it would be an extra charge. It became apparent he never intended to do any work at all. In fact he knew the claiming it was dirty would absolve him of his obligation to fix it. When I complained to the office manager she wasn't the least bit interested in hearing about it and didn't even offer to send another guy out or anything. I asked for a refund of my service fee which of course she denied. This is the first problem I've had with a Home Warranty of America contractor. HWA has been fantastic in all other regards. If they knew how badly USA Air represents them I am sure they would choose anybody else. It's my suggestion that you do too. When I went to look at the other reviews I noticed that al”

“Had the unfortunate pleasure of doing business with these people when they were assigned by American Home Shield back in May to treat a cooling issue on my upstairs unit their tech diagnosed as a coil leak. It took them 30 days and multiple visits to get my house cooling again, only to find out they swapped the coil on the downstairs unit by mistake. So now, nearly two month later, we're dealing with that. It's clear their upfront payment policy is designed for situations like these, because when I was finally able make Bobby Ashcraft aware of their error, he made it clear that he has no intentions of rectifying it. He even tried to pass the upstairs unit's coil as new when they clearly had been working on the other machine. I'm grateful for the tech that made me aware of the situation and was able to get my house cooling again, but this experience as a whole has been completely unprofessional. I would highly advise going with another company for your AC needs.”

“I would not recommend this company for anything. They installed a complete hvac system. Bobbie Never answers his phone after he collects payment. 3 months after installation the unit separated and was cooling the attic. 1 year later unit stopped cooling so I called him (no answer) left message to request service on a 100 degree day. He NEVER returned my call. I got another company to fix it.”

“Bobby was very professional and very helpful. We agreed on time and date for installation and he's installers were there on time. The father/son installers were very professional, knowledgeable fast and after they were done they left everything as if no one was there. Cleaned there work area and everything was left running and working exactly as it was explained. Bobby quoted an excellent price and there was no surprise charges and fees and he was way cheaper that 2 other companies that quoted me. I highly recommend this company to anyone with AC problems. I am very happy they were available to help me.”

“Made an appointment and they were there the next day and thirty minutes early. Bobby diagnosed the problem and quickly rectified the issue. Will continue to use USA Air Conditioning and Heating. Saw a one star review because the guys appointment was canceled. One one star and three five stars. I think there is a little more to the story. Highly recommended.”

“PAID for a good or service NEVER received. My warranty company connected me USA. Tech’s are unable to install/communicate/find a location and receptionist obsessed with texting deferring to “conference calls” or “business meetings”. They pushed my entire process back approximately two weeks, but still in fulfilled their billing to the insurance demonstrating moral turpitude. The receptionist, Ms Carla will communicate only via text. Carla started the process poorly. She accidentally rejected the insurance claim resulting in a call from myself the warranty company to re-instate. Upon this, Bobby was able to make it out two days later. His inspection was quick and we together, watched the video of a second opinion AC company’s (I paid out of pocket for) description of the problem. Upon diagnosing, a part was to be ordered and arrive over the weekend, on Monday. Upon MY reaching out, I was told arrival was actually Wednesday and service slated for 1-3pm on a Thursday. Multiple individuals were at the house with no AC for 5 hours (three hours past the LATEST 3pm arrival slate) until being told tech waited for 45 minutes and was calling a gmail phone number and “left”. Finally, the r”

“Had them come out to see the problem with our outside unit. The tech said it was the compressor and quoted us $3500. We got another quote for $225 for the run capacitor and our unit is working great! I advise to reach out to Cool Mark Heat and Air for actual assistance and avoid getting scammed.”

“USA Air conditioning is the company contracted by American Home Shield (AHS). We came home Tuesday night to no AC and put in a request for service. Wednesday morning our case was assigned to USA Air Conditioning. They said the soonest they could get to us was Thursday afternoon between 1 and 2. We asked AHS if there was another contractor they could use so we could have it done Wednesday since we were off and it was in the high 90s, but their customer service is in India and they just read a prepared script which is no help at all. My husband took a day off work to be home. On Thursday they were late but figured out the problem was the thermostat. They said they didn’t have one with them. What HVAC technician doesn’t carry thermostats? They promised us they would be out the next night, Friday, at our convenience. We told them we would be home about 5:30. Around 2 pm my husband called and left a message that we would be home at 5:30. He also called at 5:30 and left a message that we were home. He called again at 6:30 and asked them to please call back. He called again at 7:30 and 8:30. They never answered their phone and never called back. I called AHS customer service and got now”

“Worst service imaginable. I called yesterday to have my a/c serviced. I was given an appointment for 9-11 on June 19th. I called to find out when the technician would be arriving only to find out that they had canceled the appointment without my consent or knowledge. Do yourself a favor and call somebody reliable. I am sitting in my shop sweating because they canceled my appointment for me! I cannot express how frustrated and disappointed I am in the service of this apparently worthless company.”

“Bobby the owner did a horrible job installing my new ac which he charged $5500 when I complained he said he may look into the issue if I fixed him dinner. When he finally came back he said he would not complete the job unless I was nice to him. Don't do business with this man!”

Kathleen Gibson

“This company came to my home three days ago to install a new AC coil. It is now 85* in my house. They were two weeks late getting the job done and it lasted a whole three days.”

Dennis

“2/22/2021, US Air Conditioning came and put refrigeron in unit, checked out some other things in the attic. JORGE P. told me everything was fine. He set the inside thermostat from 62 to 75 degrees. He said it'll take about an hour to reach that temperature. 2/23/2021 my house is still 62 degrees.”

Mary Holliday

“SA Cool Zone, LLC serviced our central HVAC, diagnosed the problem and had us up and running again. I would highly recommend them for your HVAC service and maintenance needs.”

Jack Morgan

“USA Air is a well-run business who has not forgotten about customer service. Robert and Vicente have restored my faith in business where a handshake means something. Great company, great employees, great business!”

Rich

“Did not call back after coming out, don’t answer phone and made excuses how it’s hot and working long days. Wouldn’t send detailed estimate. If you are in the AC biz in Texas it’s going to be hot and busy in the summer. Terrible all around from Technician to customer service. New company coming out tomorrow.”
