“I hired Brazos to diagnose cooling issues with my mini-split systems. The technician quickly recommended adding refrigerant and I was charged approximately $500 for refrigerant. I was also told one of the units had a leaking coil and was given a very expensive replacement quote. After continuing to have problems, I sought a second opinion. The second company completely disassembled both indoor units and found the blower wheels heavily impacted with dirt and debris. After cleaning them, airflow was dramatically improved and both units are now cooling extremely well. The second technician also determined the refrigerant leak appears to be in the line set rather than the indoor coil that I was originally told was leaking. My frustration is that the blower wheels were never inspected during the original diagnosis, despite being severely clogged and clearly affecting system performance. In my opinion, airflow issues should have been thoroughly evaluated before recommending refrigerant charges and major equipment replacement. I’m relieved I sought a second opinion before replacing equipment that appears to have had significant life left in it. I encourage other homeowners to get multiple opinions before approving expensive HVAC repairs or replacements.”
