Carefree landscapes

Carefree Landscapes handles irrigation work out of Midland, Texas, with Russell Scott running the operation. The company takes on sprinkler system installs along with related tasks such as trenching, sod replacement, and basic yard leveling to get water systems working properly. Reviewers note that Russell often shows up with one helper and handles the physical side of the jobs himself.

Customers describe jobs that center on fixing patchy or damaged lawns through sod removal and fresh laying, plus full sprinkler setups that sometimes include rock borders and plantings around the new turf. Several mention Russell arriving early, finishing within the stated window, and making sure the sod stays moist and green during install. Others point to tree trimming or weekly mowing as add-ons when the main irrigation or sod work is done, with outcomes that leave the yard looking even and usable again.

Russell tends to answer calls promptly and keeps homeowners updated on start dates and any schedule shifts. Work happens in the Midland area, with jobs starting as early as needed and wrapping on the agreed timeline. Reviewers note clear pricing discussions up front and accurate material orders that limit leftover sod or supplies. Service runs on a schedule that fits around other bookings, and Russell lets clients know if timing needs adjustment.

Most reviews praise the finished look of the lawns and the steady pace of the crew, though a few mention problems with deposits not being fully returned after delays or incomplete sprinkler work that left trenches open and existing grass dying. Topics that come up often include on-time arrivals, clean job sites, and solid results on sod installs.

“Sodding Job While this is the only review I have ever offered, I feel the quality work of Care Free Landscapes merits the best I can share. I believe Russell brought with him one of his best employees. He was a steady worker who did not slack , but consistently double- checked his own work. In turn, Russell must have set this standard for quality work as I saw him checking all the work being done. Russell sought out the freshest, greenest, and the most recently cut sod for the job . They were here to receive delivery of the sod. The moist sod was quickly laid out in a most timely fashion. When people driving by stop to ask questions, you know they too see quality work. All in all, we were very pleased with the finished product and highly recommend Care Free Landscapes. E.F. Westphal Midland, TX”

“Russell was quick to respond and communicated well when doing my sod installation. I am very pleased with his work.”

“UPDATE: Russell did make good on his word and resolved this matter. Russell does not back up his work. He blames the homeowner. I would not recommend this business.”

“Easy to contact and set a service date. Began job early. Completed the job on time. Great knowledge of prices for replacing grass and plants. Went the extra mile and delivered “leftover” sod to a separate address. Accurate ordering…only 15 pieces of sod from 3 pellets left over. Knowledgeable about what would grow well in our location! Professional and courteous. Recommend their services.”

“We had a corner in our yard that needed some work. We had Russell remove sod and level the area. Then had him lay turf! He did a great job! Highly recommend!”

“I put a deposit down for sod that was never installed. I did not get a full refund. $400/$1700 was returned to me after 8 months of hassling Russel Scott, the owner. I would not recommend doing business here. There are multiple options in midland. No need to risk your money.”

“Care Free Landscapes is AWESOME!!! Our back yard was nothing but dirt. When Care Free finished we now have a beautiful green yard. He got the job done within the time that he said and the cost is not bad at all... My flower beds have never looked better he lined them with rock borders and planted some lovely plants. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Care Free Landscapes!!! These guys Rock!!!!!”

“Care Fee Landscaping provided great landscaping for our project. Very responsive and delivered quality on time. Would highly recommend and will definitely use again for future landscaping projects.”

“Free Estimate. Very prompt. Returns calls. Does excellent work. Always works us in. Care Fee has helped us repair two separate yards by digging up the old grass and weeds and sodding new grass. Great job both times. They do what they say they will do when they say they will do it. That is hard to find in Midland some times. Very pleased.”

“I was provided a quote and accepted in mid April 2024. I then paid a deposit of half the quoted price that was deposited on May 15th, 2024. The job included installation of a sprinkler system, laying of sod and rock, and planting of a few things. It is now end of August 2024 and nothing has been completed. Work was started in May which involved trenching in preparation for the sprinkler system. The sprinkler system was never finished and in this process the water to the front existing sprinklers was cut off resulting in dying or dead front lawn as well. The backyard is still in a state of trenched lines and is a daily tripping hazard. No effort has been shown to get this job completed or refund provided. (I've also filed this complaint with BBB so hopefully others can avoid these results )”
