About
Greens & Things Nursery & Landscape runs its operation right in Portland, Texas, where it focuses on both nursery stock and full landscaping work for area homes. The crew grows and sells plants suited to local conditions while taking on yard projects that involve installation and upkeep. Homeowners in the coastal bend turn to them for materials and labor when they need to refresh beds or start new gardens that hold up to the heat and occasional salt air. Their setup lets them pull directly from their own inventory for jobs, cutting down on delays that come with ordering from far away suppliers. This mix of retail and on-site work fits the needs of Portland residents who want plants and service from one spot.
They keep a strong selection of succulents and Hoya on the tables at all times and bring in young staghorn ferns when they arrive in stock. Staff take calls to reserve vegetable plants each March so customers can pick them up later without missing the season. For landscaping jobs the team helps match plants to the yard, sets them in place, and checks that everything gets watered and settled right. Prices stay low enough that repeat buyers load up on bulk orders, and the crew stays friendly when folks come in asking for advice on what will grow without extra fuss. Homeowners note the owner steps in to sort planting needs on the spot and makes sure the right varieties go home with them.
Folks rate the business high because the staff answers questions fast and keeps the selection fresh without pushing extras. Reviews mention solid prices that beat bigger stores, helpful guidance from the owner on every visit, and quick fixes when a plant order needs adjustment. The crew earns trust by showing up ready to work on real yards rather than just selling and leaving. That record of reliable service, clear talk on costs, and steady quality in plant stock and installs builds the overall mark. DIRT Score 4.14 from 33 reviews on Finds.

What Customers Say
“I’ve always enjoyed this plant nursery, especially their variety of succulents, however I am always a bit bummed to see lots of invasive/non-native plants especially when there are nearly identical Texas native alternatives. For example, I love lantana and have been looking for a second one to buy, but each time I’ve gone by, this nursery only has golden and/or purple lantana available which are invasive tropical varieties. I’d love to see a native plant section, or more Texas swaps like black foot daisy, silver pony foot ground cover, coral honeysuckle, etc! I think that would really elevate this nursery as people’s plants would stay alive MUCH longer, attract more birds and butterflies, and have more successful blooms year-long in the harsh south Texas climate.”
“Amazing succulent selection at all times! Plenty of gorgeous Hoya variety as well. They had young staghorn ferns in stock when we were last there. Always a pleasure to do business with a local small business.”
