About

Symbiosis LLC runs landscaping work from Kyle, Texas. They handle design and build for regenerative land systems, earthworks, watershed restoration, rainwater setups, permaculture gardens, and large scale rural management across Central Texas properties. Michael Wolfert leads the crew along with team members such as Ariel, Justin, Samuel, Adam Russell, Chris, Nathan, and Ryan. Their services cover suburban consultations, homestead planning, soil building, pond construction, and turning raw lots into usable spaces with native plants and water features.

Homeowners bring them steep hills for terracing and berm construction with nutrient mixes to support food forests. Others have the crew convert former quarry ground into meadows with multiple small ponds, install irrigated raised beds plus long swales for rain capture, or add fences and gates around new vegetable plots. Samuel walked sites to match owner ideas on fruit trees and garden placement. Michael and Ariel handled planning for native species suited to local conditions while Justin returned on one job to adjust results until the setup held up.

The team starts with site meetings that use drone images, maps, and drawings to lay out options and phase work around budgets. They keep communication steady from first contact through install, finish on the agreed timeline, and stay available afterward for questions on timing or maintenance. Work reaches properties in all directions from Austin with crews that handle both compact backyards and bigger acreage.

Feedback shows a 4.8 rating. Common points include the crew's grasp of Central Texas plants and climate, their straightforward dealings on costs and scope, and the visible shifts in land use and water flow after projects wrap.

What Customers Say

“The Symbiosis team is great to work with. Throughout our project, we interacted with several different team members. All of them have a real passion for what they do. The preparation for the project was also top notch. Well before the first shovel hit the dirt, we had several meetings on: what all was going to be done, pro's and con's of various methods and materials, budgeting. Various tools were used to show what was going to be done. Things like video, drone footage, satellite images, maps and drawings. There is no sales pressure from the team to do everything in the proposal. They were happy to focus on top priorities and schedule things in phases. I highly recommend Symbiosis.”

“From our first meeting with Adam Russell, we knew we were on the same page for our project. For us it was quite a massive undertaking with the construction of a rainwater catchment tank alongside the terracing of our somewhat treacherously steep hill and the build up of berms with the appropriate mix of nutrients for our food forest planting, but we felt completely calm in the competent hands of the Symbiosis team and their capabilities and teamwork. Amongst them there is also a great source of knowledge to be tapped and a wealth of experience to rely on and we felt in very good hands, right down to the best timing for the planting for best results. At the end of the project it even began to rain as the last shovel was being collected, which we took as a sign of good luck and a job well done. Thereafter we began with a twice a season maintenance program to ensure all was growing well, that trimming was done at optimal times and that irrigation was running properly. We now have this maintenance once a season as the plants are maturing, to catch any problems (pests, damage from storms etc.) early on, and to check on the irrigation system. This was a project well worth doing and even ”

“My husband and I purchased a lot at the Ranches at Sentinel Peaks, it was the last available lot because it had been the Boy Scouts Quarry and nothing but limestone caliche. They transformed the land into a spectacular wildflower and grass meadow with 7 small ponds to hold the water after a rain. We call them the dirt whisperers ! We have now decided to transform the entire 13 acres. The are amazing!”

“Sarah designed our dream backyard and executed the project perfectly! I highly recommend Symbiosis services!”

“Every step of the way was incredibly professional with Symbiosis. Samuel asked great questions to understand my vision and goals for the property. While walking through the property he matched my excitement for different ideas and answered every question I had. He is the most knowledgeable person I have ever talked to on this subject. I’m excited to continue a working relationship with Symbiosis.”

“No nuisance here….our gardens turned out AMAZING and Michael told me make sure in the winter to turn off the water timer lol. I have been on both sides of working with and for symbiosis, I believe we all show the world who we want to be seen as and then eventually who we truly are….. Michael, Ariel, Dustin, and the entire team are and have been from day 1 exactly who they say they are which is “upfront, honest, hardworking, stewards, teachers, most importantly caring”. There is zero guessing with them as people and that’s why they will always be the leader in permaculture/ land stewardship. Their knowledge is absolutely light years above anybody I’ve ever met, there ability to care for each client and their project has led our company to raise our standard as well, and at the end of the day if I have plants that need to be properly placed, land that needs proper stewardship, and honesty always SYMBIOSIS is who will be called. As Ryan said while working on our garden project today they grow a lot of good onions lol. My thumbs couldn’t stop writing how awesome they. Hire when you are ready to create vision, purpose, and love the land and this place we call home as they do.”

“From the start I trusted that Chris, Nathan, Terra, and Ande would devote their expert creativity, even to such a relatively small project. I am elated and better able to navigate and access my rustic property. Accolades are coming in from all who see the product of their good ideas. They worked with the eclectic mix of materials I'd collected on the property, and built an attractive and workable foundation for all future gardening and native plants.”

“Mike and his team came up with a very creative design plan for our small homestead. They completed the first phase of the install this spring and it was beautifully done. We can see our land has so much more biodiversity and unbelievable number of pollinators. Mike, Chris, and Ryan were wonderful to work with and learn from. You could see how much they care about nature and bring so much passion into what they do. Ryan taught me a lot about Central Texas gardening and continues to support us with maintenance. I highly recommend them.”

“Great crew with great experience... and taking a healthy, fresh approach to gardening, landscaping and land management.”

“Michael Wolfert and his team at Symbiosis were great to work with in planning the upgrades to our 1+ acre property. They were calm, professional, knowledgeable, and responsive. He acknowledged that he was busy from the start-- but came in well ahead of schedule. We came to him with many ideas, and needed guidance in getting everything to fit together correctly, and help us understand which aspects of the project to tackle first. His consultation and design covered specific native plants we should use and where to place them, designing a large vegetable garden, specific fruit trees to plant that will be most productive in Austin's funky climate, capturing and using rainwater for irrigation, building healthy soil, adding beauty to the landscape, creating better yard access, implementing on-site composting, as well as suggesting specific locations for a garden shed, chicken coop, greenhouse, and lots more... He was able to give me rough estimates of the cost of various elements of the project as well as estimates of the materials needed for each (75 yards of weed block, 15 yards of mulch, etc...) so I could budget accordingly and use this as a starting place when getting bids on aspec”

“Loved working with Michael and his crew! They did amazing work at our house here in Austin and are so knowledgeable on permaculture and landscape design. They are a great group of people who are so communicative and hard working. We love how they transformed our outside space. Highly recommend them!!”

“Mike, Kansas, Ariel and the rest of the team helped me realize my vision for having a productive, beautiful set of gardens in my 1/2 acre backyard. They installed gates and a fence (for a dog run to keep my dog out of my new gardens!), they installed and planted two irrigated raised-bed gardens, as well as a very long berm-swale rain garden to help capture and slow water from heavy rain events. I have enjoyed the beautiful flowers, fruits, veggies, greens, herbs and the presence of birds and other pollinators, and other wildlife! I only wish I had more funds to transform the rest of my yard into a complete food forest! They have always been super professional, kind, creative and very efficient. I can't recommend them more! Thanks team!”

“I've worked with Mike Wolfert & his excellent team several times over the years, both for my private home and for apartment properties I oversee through my work. I couldn't recommend Symbiosis more highly: Their team knows Central Texas plants and does a great job balancing classic permaculture approaches with a property owner's needs. In our most recent project, they took out trees, built beds, added fence, filled in off-alley parking spots built an outdoor living area with built-in furniture, and created a grassy space for our toddler. I can't think of another company that could meet all those different types of needs. Kudos to Symbiosis and thanks!”

“Edit: Michael, I'm sorry you didn't feel comfortable telling me what a nuisance you felt I was. As for "renegotiation," that is usually bilateral. What happened was "oops, sorry we couldn't honor the promise that was at the crux of your whole decision, but we don't like you, so bye." I've debated whether to leave this review for a long time. I hate speaking poorly of others, but I also feel that people should be warned. I feel that Michael is not a man of integrity, and you should be careful hiring him -- though there is a lot of good to say about the rest of his team. We hired Symbiosis in 2021 to design and install a large garden. We immediately hit it off with them and felt great about the company. They installed 300 perennials and 25 fruit trees in May 2021, and guaranteed survival of the plants on a $350/month maintenance program. The first few months' bills were nearly double that. Despite that, the team members who performed the maintenance could not identify their plants, let alone what they needed. I still do not know why they "guaranteed" survival of plants that they self-admittedly could not locate. I learned to identify the plants myself, and after a few months, po”

“Michael, Justin and team were invaluable to the design and execution of our permaculture project. Professional, knowledgeable, emotionally intelligent, and a delight to interact with. They made sure our vision and goals were clear from the get-go and helped us bring our dreams to life! We couldn't have done it without them!”

Therese Schwenkler

“Mike and Ariel have consistently gone above and beyond - Ariel even took the time to help me get my tractor shredder attached and running. They have offered solutions on things that have made all the difference. We were lucky to have them! These guys and their team are quality - they know what they are doing and have great communication. Cannot recommend them enough!”

Jennifer Valenza

“It's an absolute pleasure working with Mike, Ariel, and the crew with Symbiosis from consultation all the way through to installation. They are professional, hardworking, affordable, and creative. Most importantly they completed the entire scope of work on budget, on time, and to our satisfaction.”

Yong Huang

“You could not find someone more hard working than Justin. While our project was complex and did not perform as originally designed, Justin came back to fix it, so they stand behind their work. We are happy with the final results, and are grateful to them for working with us.”

Kristen Biggs

“Michael, Ariel, and their team are awesome! So hardworking and reliable. They go out of their way to make sure your project is done right and that you are very satisfied with your new space. I definitely recommend them!”

Casey Wiggins

“Thank y’all so much for the beautiful work. Our place is feeling a lot more spruced up and it looked especially beautiful in time for our baby shower we had. Looking forward to continuing to beautify our outdoor areas with y'alls support.”
