Backyard Creations, LLC

Backyard Creations, LLC handles landscaping work out of McKinney, Texas. Rich Collins runs the company with Mary handling coordination. They take on full property designs, installations, outdoor lighting, drainage fixes, stone work, sod and plant placement, sprinkler adjustments, and backyard builds that include grading and rock features. The crew keeps most phases in house rather than handing off pieces to others, and they cover the North Texas area with jobs that range from front yard sidewalk repairs to complete pool area overhauls.

Homeowners describe projects that start with clearing out weeds like nutsedge or turning muddy bare spots into usable yards. Rich and the team have refreshed flowerbeds, added artificial turf, upgraded lighting around pools, laid river rock in shady zones, and fixed poor grading that caused flooding next to houses. They also handle stone edging, mulch beds, new shrubs, and sprinkler coverage checks so the finished yards hold up without constant rework. Several customers note that Rich came out personally for advice on plant choices and layout before any digging started.

The crew shows up on schedule, keeps clients updated through each step, and sticks to the budget without pushing extra work. Rich listens to what the owner wants, offers options for drainage or plant health, and follows up after the job to check results. Mary stays on top of timing and details so there are no surprises on timing or cost. Work covers both new builds and older yards damaged by freezes or prior contractors, and the team cleans up thoroughly at the end of each day.

Reviews give the company a 4.8 rating across multiple accounts. People keep mentioning Rich's hands-on knowledge, the clean execution of stone and grading work, strong communication from both Rich and Mary, and attention to sprinklers and plant health that leaves yards looking finished rather than thrown together.

“The team did a phenomenal job in our backyard clearing out an invasion of nutsedge and helping treat it. The previous landscaper left a mess and they were able to help walk us through our options. They were very professional and courteous. We would highly recommend.”

“I had a fantastic experience with Rich from Backyard Creations. He personally came out to my house and provided expert advice on how to properly install and maintain my front yard sidewalk area. It’s rare to find someone so knowledgeable and willing to share their professional insights. I really appreciate the time he took to guide me through the project. Highly recommended!”

“Rich and team transformed my entire backyard around the pool, refreshed the flowerbeds, upgraded the lighting and installed artificial turf. He also added new grass to the front and side of my home and everything turned out beautifully! His quality of work and customer service were outstanding!”

“Rich and his team did a FANTASTIC job! They were extremely professional, worked within our budget, and got the job done early! Most of all, they really pay attention to detail - they didn’t just design the layout and put in new plants, they spent a great deal of time making sure I had adequate sprinkler coverage. Plus, it looks great! I can’t recommend them enough!”

“Backyard Creations transformed our backyard from an ugly muddy area with very little grass into a beautiful area that we are happy to sit and admire. We were astonished at how great the yard looks now. We loved their use of river rock for the areas of the yard that were too shady to grow grass. They were very fair and open and walked us through different options for ways to divert the water efficiently. The whole crew was very professional and friendly. We highly recommend them.”

“We had Rich and his team essentially remove everything in our front yard and start over, plants, landscaping and even sod. We told Rich what we wanted and needed, he listened, gave expert advise, and followed through timely and gave us exactly what we wanted---exceeding our expectations, really. He and Mary communicated well, stayed on top of everything and followed up timely. The entire project was on time and we were very pleased with the outcome. Rich and his team are very professional. We liked his work so much we are now having him redo our backyard! We would definitely recommend Backyard Creations.”

“Rich and his team did an amazing job on our backyard refresh! He was amazing to work with to make our dream of a beautiful backyard a reality. We hope to do the front yard next.”

“I recently did business with Backyard Creations. I had received several bids to do some stone edging, mulch, trees and shrubs around my house. The price was pretty much in line with everyone else’s, but what I was most impressed with was Rich Collins knowledge and attention to detail. I could tell that he had my best interest in mind, and wanted to take the time to make sure that I understood everything that he was going to do and why. I visited with two different landscape companies before i spoke to Rich and the other guys cannot hold a candle to Rich. The other guys seemed so “fly by night”. I could tell right away that Rich had been in the industry a long time, and knows his stuff. I own my own construction business, and I know how construction jobs can be, I know the challenges that Construction guys have, and understand how difficult it is to make sure that the customer has a good experience. I do not write a lot of Google reviews, however I felt this one necessary. I would 100% recommend backyard creations to anyone that wanted landscaping done.”

“We’ve hired Backyard Creations for two major projects that involved bushes, plants, mulch, sod and stone work. Meticulous planning and flawless execution have created beautiful landscaping. Highly recommended!”

“Rich and Mary were great and easy to work with. Our backyard looks fantastic now! My wife could not be happier.”

“Backyard Creations (BC) is a very professional and creative company for yard design and landscaping. Rich, the company head, takes a personal interest in clients’ needs, thoughtfully listening to the desires of those with whom he works. Mary, his coordinator, is reliable, providing timely communication and follow-up. Our yard needed help, following the deep freeze that Texas went through a couple of winters back. Rich provided ideas and options that went far beyond our expectations. The resultant plan exceeded our expectations. BC began by removing all major plants and shrubs in our front and back yard so that we could have a fresh start — they started and completed their work on schedule. The end results have brought acclaim from not only us, but of our neighbors all around us! If you want to work with a company that has integrity and the customer’s interest at heart, contact Backyard Creations; if they’re booked up with commitments, it’s worth the wait for the pleasurable results that they can bring, making the customer proud and satisfied.”

“We are thrilled with the exceptional craftsmanship displayed by Backyard Creations on our property. Their efforts have not only increased the value of our home but also significantly enhanced its aesthetics. Rich Collin’s company has restored our faith in working with local landscaping businesses. It’s truly remarkable that the owner is so hands-on and follows up with any issues promptly.”

“We cannot say enough fantastic things about Rich and his crew at Backyard Creations. He transformed our plain backyard with no landscaping into a gorgeous oasis. We now have beautiful landscaping and accent lighting that is better than we could have even hoped for. Rich is truly an expert in his field and is an absolute delight to work with. Communication was outstanding throughout the entire process and his standards of excellence are stellar. Without question, we couldn’t have chosen a better company than Backyard Creations.”

“Had a great experience with Backyard Creations. Rich (the owner) came out to our house for a consultation and gave us all the time in the world. We had some issues with our patio flooding due to pool builder doing poor job regrading our grass and he was able to give us great direction on how to resolve it. What I appreciated about Rich was he was very honest about what we actually needed and didn’t try and sell us more - even though it would have been more $$ for him. I’d use Backyard Creations again for any future needs and highly recommend them!”

“Rich and Mary at Backyard Creations did an amazing job for us! We built a new home and they drafted an incredible landscape design including a lot of stone work to match our house. Then they installed everything and it looks even better than the original plan! The quality and health of all plantings is outstanding and the quality of their work is a 10 out of 10. They communicated with me throughout the whole process and there were no surprises. You would never go wrong hiring them for your project! I'm so glad I chose Backyard Creations to create our forever yard! Thank you Rich and Mary.”

“Great experience with this company. I had a bad water drainage problem between my house and the neighbors. I moved in 2 years ago and the side yard was always muddy. Neighbor told me it had always been that way since new, year 2000. Rich from Backyard Creations came out. They ended up fixing the grade on the side between the houses. They did an excellent job! Super clean, professional, and excellent workmanship. I was very pleased! Rich is a great guy. Very nice and professional. My neighbor was so impressed with how clean and precise they were that he took their number for future projects on things he needs done. Great company and people!”

“Just finished a big job redesigning the landscaping in my front and back yards and I couldn’t be happier. I appreciate the excellent ideas and how easy it was to work with Rich and his crew. They were very careful working around existing plants and did a great job making sure my sprinkler system was adjusted for the new landscape. Thanks!!”

“Been dealing with Rich and Backyard Creations for a good 15+ years now. He just finished a grass project and had the neighbors coming over and asking about the work! Always top notch and Rich knows his craft better than most out there. If you're looking to penny save, cut corners and want less than average results then Backyard Creations is not for you. Have recommended Rich to family & friends! You get what you pay for with them!”
