About

A-1 Locksmith runs locksmith work out of Colleyville, Texas for homes, businesses, and vehicles. The company has operated in the Mid-Cities area since 1949 and keeps a store location where manager Andy handles key work, safe sales, and customer questions. Technicians such as Nick, James, Wasem, and Jason handle on-site and counter jobs that include cutting keys, programming vehicle remotes, rekeying locks, and battery swaps.

Reviewers describe calls for lost car keys where a tech arrived on time and produced a working key in about ten minutes. Others stopped in to replace key fobs, buy safes after talking through sizes and prices with Andy, or get house locks rekeyed on the spot. Some needed help moving parts from an old remote into a new one or fixing a truck door lock so it worked again without extra trips.

Appointments get booked ahead but several customers report waits past the set window or calls to reschedule after an hour. Pricing draws comments as reasonable once a quote is given upfront, and the store stays open on Saturdays. Service reaches Colleyville plus nearby spots like Plano and parts of the wider DFW area where people drive in for counter work.

Google shows 4.5 from 118 reviews that often note fast key jobs and Andy’s product knowledge while also flagging scheduling misses and follow-up on safes. DIRT Score 4.2 from N reviews on Finds.

What Customers Say

“My son lost the keys to his car. The first company did not have the right blank key and the one before that just didn’t show up. Nick from A1 was great, knew exactly what he was doing and I had a new key in literally 10 minutes after he arrived. He arrived on time. Amazing.”

Mike Milliken

“From the initial call to the end of service A1 truly lives up to their name. My service tech was professional, very kind, and super efficient. Their pricing is very reasonable and doable. I highly recommend them and they will always be the A1 contact for me!”

Connie L

“Purchased the new Liberty safe on 10-28-2024. The safe won’t open 2-18-2025. A1 would not come out without charging me. Unbelievably bad. Wish I never purchased from them. They actually responded like they actually did something. They did absolutely nothing to repair my problem. Had to go to another company to fix.”

Bill Tennant

“This review is for a house call to program a key. This company likes to over book appointments. I scheduled 1 day in advance, made an appointment, and they call after I waited one hour for them to show up and then didn't want to make it right. If you schedule an appointment I guess they don't do it on a first come first serve basis and will determine that your appointment is off less importance and then make you wait and tell you to reschedule. I appreciate the call to reschedule but don't waste people's time by scheduling an appointment just to call and reschedule. Almost as if they want your info for marketing purposes.”

Darrell Presher

“Our tech was professional and provided great customer service. He took the time to discuss all of our options, provide input/suggestions and explained all of the fees before performing the work. They are very reasonably priced! I would recommend A-1 & also use them again for future jobs. My only wish is that they could provide a smaller window time for appointment.”

“Great customer service!! The manager Andy is extremely knowledgeable about the product they sell and made certain my purchasing experience was nothing short of exceptional. Andy and the entire team I delt with at A-1 understand and delivered what customer service should look like. I highly recommend A-1 Locksmith and will definitely be using them again.”

“Stopped by a few months ago to get my key battery replaced and saw the selection of safes they had on display. Not only did Andy get my key working again in no time for a great price he also took the time to educate me about their safe selection. He discussed what I needed and wrote up a quote for me on the safe I chose. I came back today and he honored that quote. It was quick and easy and much needed with a baby on the way.”

“From the moment I walked into the store, Andy could not have been more helpful. He really took an interest in me personally and the needs that I presented to him. He was extremely knowledgeable and gave sound recommendations. He believes in his product but more importantly, I discovered that Andy truly cares about me as a person. Andy possesses something very rare and uncommon today, he brings real value and honesty and a true commitment to the customer. Without hesitation I will recommend Andy and A-1 to anyone needing assistance.”

“James at the Plano store got a new key cut and programmed pretty quickly for my wife's 2004 Honda Accord. Those have goofy keys but he got it done on the first try!”

Trevor 69er

“Andy was very helpful with assisting us to getting spare keys made for our cars. We were really impressed with his customer service. Good job on this boss.”

Amanda Brown

“I called A1 to get a quote to install brand new hardware in my entire home. The guy came out, and he was great, very professional. However the day before they stood me up completely. They told me they would be at my home between 1-3pm and they flat out didn’t show up. Someone finally called me around 5pm saying they couldn’t make it to my home. I told them I would still entertain their business if they could discount my services if I hired them. They said “sure no problem.” The quote was $2,000 for my entire home. I asked what type of discount they could offer for wasting my time the day before and they said the best they could do was they would waive the $58 service fee for sending someone to my home...I told them that wasn’t good enough considering most companies waive that fee anyway when your hire them....I gave them a fair chance to earn my business and they flat out never even counter-offered. I’ve never been treated that way by a business. Their attitude was “we don’t need your business”.”

“Called today and talked to Andy about getting a new truck key, and was told it could cost from $80-$175 depending on whether i wanted a replacement or an entire new key. For a brand new key i was told it would take 10-15 minutes to complete the process. I then went to Michael’s Keys and bought a completely new key and had it programmed in about 2 minutes and it only charged me $65. You can expect me to start recommending people not to be going here.”

Garrett Wells

“My jaw actually dropped when the employee told me the price to make a 2nd master key for my vehicle. Done in 10 minutes. This is the spot to go. They will take care of you without any hassle or unreasonable deals like dealerships will give you for automotive support. Top notch!”

Russell Diamond

“I like that they are open on Saturdays. Had to get my truck door lock keyed. The young gentleman that was behind the counter had good great customer service skills. He was taking care of another customer and I was listening to him talking about the safes in the store he knew his job. He got my lock keyed in a timely manner worked like new. This place is great had to drive a little but it was worth it. Thanks”

Sam Moore

“Wasem and Jason did a great job. Professional, kind, and detail oriented. They got everything installed perfectly and walked me through the process the entire time. Very impressed with their customer service!”

“While I only had a key copied and wasn't spending much, I couldn't have asked for better service. The locksmith even said to call them if I had any trouble programming the key for my vehicle. Fortunately the programming went fine and I didn't need to, but it was certainly a nice extra touch to the service. I'll keep them top of mind for any locksmith needs in the future.”

Travis Bagby

“After receiving poor service at a competitor, I called & asked if they can move the mainboard and key from my original key fob & the gentleman said yes. I showed the gentleman what I needed done & he said he couldn't do it because the fob's are one piece. I explained to him that they are not & asked him if he had a pair of needle nose pliers which he did so I showed him how to separate the fob's. He thanked me for showing him how to do that. Within 5 minutes, he had the work done & was even nice enough to make sure the fob worked. Sadly, I drive a Kia Rio & it's sketchy on whether or not it wants to acknowledge my fob sometimes. Nothing he could do anything about it & I'm grateful he made sure it worked. Highly recommend them on doing this type of work but make sure you are knowledge that this work can be done & can show them like I did.”

Dan Pettit

“These guys are great! My keys always work great. They have helped me with replacement car keys, house keys, filing cabinet replacement keys, batteries for my garage remote. They are always so friendly and helpful and I only go here for my keys.”

Kathleen Adams

“I ended up buying a Fatboy Extreme Jr 48 safe from Andy at A-1. It took me several weeks to decide which safe I wanted. I did tons of research and went to many different places across DFW looking at safes. Andys very knowledgeable and professional and for me the biggest thing was he didn’t try to hard close me at any point or put any pressure on me. Their prices can’t be beat. And trust me I tried to find it cheaper. I’d definitely recommend doing business with Andy at A1.”

Daniel Derebery

“I'm a new home owner in the Arlington area, I gave a call to A-1 and inquired about a lock. The service was extremely rude. They CLEARLY did not want to help me. I described to them my problem and you could tell with every step of my description he didn't want to listen to a word I had to say. After 5 minutes of brief description, he started repeating over and over "We will have to order it. We will have to order it." He did NOT know enough about the lock to know which one it is, he just wanted me off the phone. I have to agree with Kristi... with the difficulty of the economy as it is... and how hard it is to find a job... it's disappointing that employees act this way while getting their paycheck. I work for far less, and for more hours, and hard labor, and I am not obligated to even talk to customers and I find it in myself to maintain a clear and friendly attitude to every customer I come into contact with. Of the 4 locksmiths I called, this one really fouled my day up, I will have to take my business elsewhere.”
