About

Michael's Keys Locksmith handles residential, commercial, and automotive locksmith work out of Colleyville, Texas. They cover key cutting, re-keying for homes and businesses, access control setups, security camera installation, security system work, and safe services. The company runs 24-hour calls across the Dallas-Fort Worth area and keeps a shop stocked with high-security locks, transponder keys, fobs, and door hardware.

Customers bring in worn ignition cylinders on older cars, broken key fobs with glued chips, and requests for cloned keys on trucks like a 2013 4Runner. Jay stayed past closing to finish a driver-side door cylinder on one vehicle. Jordan handled a re-key without an original key in minutes. Blaine, Joe, and Jordan teamed up on a new car key job. Reviewers also mention quick battery swaps paired with spare copies, repairs to worn door hardware instead of full replacements, and matching hard-to-find keys for an RV trailer that other shops turned away.

The shop answers calls for same-day help and sends techs out for mobile jobs when needed. Reviewers note upfront quotes, work that finishes in under ten minutes on simple fixes, and prices lower than dealerships for items like Ford keys. They serve spots from Grand Prairie and Grapevine to Rowlett and Arlington, with some customers driving in for in-store service on deadbolts and novelty blanks.

Google shows a 4.4 from 334 reviews, with frequent notes on fast turnaround, honest pricing, and success with tricky old locks. One review flagged disorganization on a special-order fob at the Colleyville spot. DIRT Score 4.2 from 334 reviews on Finds.

What Customers Say

“I took my car in to Michael's Keys in Rowlett for what SHOULD have been a normal driver side door cylinder replacement. It ended up being FAR from normal. To Jay's credit, he stuck with it. He did not get irritated. He did not get frustrated. He didn't even get a little bit mad. He just stuck with it and kept working until he had the job complete, even though that meant that he stayed after closing time. A dealership, and probably most other locksmiths, would have told me to leave my car and pick it up the next day, but not Jay. He was determined that he would get the job done for me in one trip. ( He didn't know that I live in Wills Point and leaving my car really wasn't feasible. ) Jay is pleasant and professional. He cares about good service and his customers. To me it is well worth the 41 mile trip to get the job done professionally and right the first time. I will continue to recommend Michael's Keys in Rowlett to family, friends and co-workers.”

“Well I've been using Michael's keys for over 10 years now. However I'm going to avoid this Colleyville location like the plague from now on. This location has gone downhill for many years now. No one's friendly, and now getting answers or help is nearly impossible. Last 3 times I've been here to get help with an issue it's been met with rudeness or even getting up from their chair. I showed him an assa abloy electronic security latch and he looked up and said nope we don't carry those and that was it, he was done with me. I also had them come out to a site to look atvsome flush bolts, problem ended up not being the hardware itself but an issue with the hole at the bottom, I asked if he could attach a plate to the bottom of the door so the bolt wouldn't have so much room to jiggle around. He said no the door was to damaged. I ended up paying over $170 for him to come out and say he couldn't do anything. He did have another guy come out to see about door replacement and get me an estimate. The guy was out there the next day, but im still waiting on the estimate. That was 4-6 weeks ago. I ended up repairing the door the exact way I asked him if he could do it. The door was not badly d”

“Amazing service and very professional! I came in to get a key fob fixed. They gave me a quote up front and started working on it. They ran into an issue with a chip that was glued into the fob when it wasn't supposed to be, which broke when they tried to get it out. Instead of blaming whoever glued it in, they took full responsibility for the broken chip and did a much more expensive full replacement at the original quoted price. I rarely post reviews, but these guys 100% deserve 5 stars! Even just waiting in their shop and hearing them work with other customers, these guys really know their stuff. Highly recommend!”

“thought about giving 4⭐, but we did eventually get what we came for. was referred to Michael's by business customer (automotive) to get cloned key for our 2013 4Runner.took a while to figure out but we eventually got exactly what we needed... plus they threw in the key they cut without the electronics (basically.... just a KEY!). checked out amazing selection of home security options, huge selection of novelty key blanks, and some locks that really blew my mind. they do install locally, a big plus. it cost us a lot to get that extra key for my car, but the peace of mind it'll give me next time I lock my keys in the car is worth it... and it was still cheaper than having someone come out and open it up for me (the car was running and the alarm armed when it happened). they were REALLY nice, even though the situation was a bit complicated. appreciated that a lot.”

“Came out here for a key battery replacement and walked out with both key battery and new key copy. These guys are super fast and reliable!! Definitely worth the drive from Grand Prairie!”

Daniel

“I don't go often but everything I need something re-keyed or duplicates made they always make magic happen. Had a key that saw better days and had years and years of use They let me know thay they can attempt to duplicate it but since so warn it might not work after 40 mins copying the key it works like a charm”

“Michael’s Keys saved me! I had a small locking cash box that I needed to open at an appointment that was 30 minutes away. And l—of course—I put the key “in a safe place.” I took the cash box into the store and I was in and out in less than 3 minutes! The employees were both efficient, friendly, and obviously skilled locksmiths. I was so grateful! Thank you, Michael’s Keys!!”

“Brick and mortar location with great…quick…service and reasonable prices. As a home inspector, I am now saving him in my list of recommended vendors around Grapevine!”

Brian Lindley

“This place always takes care of us. Even though my car is 30 years old and the ignition is worn and used, they stayed and worked to get a replacement key made. They had to do alot of manual cutting to get it to work in the tumblers due to it being such an old and worn car. Anytime I need key services, I will always come here.”

“A true locksmith capable of repairing quality door hardware - not just rip & replacement! I just finished installing the door knob they repaired - it had worn notches from years of use. Two of their team of experienced locksmiths looked at the hardware, determined the problem, and 15 minutes later I left with it repaired! So glad I took it here vs ordering a replacement which would have taken over a week. They’ve always come through for us - I highly recommend them!”

“Went to the ford dealer, key and cut was 290 plus 100 to program and they didn’t even have it in stock! Called Michael’s and they had one and did it for 190 total!”

“They were able to fix my broken key in under 10 minutes for a very inexpensive price. Go check them out!”

Sarah Finnegan

“Very friendly and a pleasure to work with. I use them for all my locksmith needs plus they can do at home visits. I would absolutely recommend to friends and family.”

“I had a hard to find key I needed a copy of, and they had it right there, on hand! Another place I looked wanted to charged me $10 and I would have had to wait for it to be mailed to me. I walked out of the store in just a few minutes, key in hand for just a couple dollars. I’ll bring all my business here, and would recommend anyone to do the same.”

“We went in to get our lock rekeyed without an original key, and they did it in under what felt like 5 minutes. We really appreciated their efficiency and kindness. Thank you, Jordan!”

Itzayani Martinez

“I broke my car keys and ordered a new key/fob but needed it to be cut. Michael’s Keys was the 4th place I went to looking for help and I’m so glad I found them! He had no issue cutting the key I purchased, he transferred the chip from my old fob over and it was really quick. Very reasonable price too. They will be my first stop next time I need keys cut.”

Natalie Pineider

“Blaine, Joe, and Jordan all help me get me a new car key. They were all very helpful and made the experience a quick one. Thank y'all!”

Jachin Byrd

“Was calling around arlington to get a price quote on getting a deadbolt re-keyed. The guy i called before Michael's/Martin's wanted $75 and I had to bring it to his location where he was working on someone elses car. Michael's went above and beyond cutting me a new key (with a spare) cause my old one wouldn't fit in the new lock and out the door the cost was: $16.24 This is a hands down good and honest business. They deserve this excellent rating and have won me over as a loyal customer for all my locking needs.”

Justin StarCastle

“The staff appears friendly enough, however they are not organized. I needed a key fob ordered and programmed for my vehicle, and after a 2 week wait, the wrong key was ordered. I was then told they couldn't order my key after all and sent me on my way. According to one of the staff members, they are currently having issues with their computers. Hopefully this wad an isolated incident. If you need services in-house, or simple, I'm sure they great! Anything out of the ordinary, or specific that requires ordering/shipping, I would go elsewhere.”

“Without a doubt the best locksmith in town. I needed a RV trailer key made, I went everywhere Home Depot, lowes , local locksmiths even a RV supply store. No one could make the key. Michael’s definitely came through in the clutch. They had the same exact key I needed for a great price.”
