“I would not hire this contractor again under any circumstances. Here is a summary of our experience with this business, for a large kitchen and bathroom remodel. Note that the bathroom never even got started; all of the below was just for the kitchen: -We paid this contractor $18,000, and we were left with a gutted kitchen, structural work that doesn’t pass inspection, and some updated electrical and plumbing. -Contractor told us that all work was interior, and we therefore did not need any permits. This is incorrect for the City of Midland. He then performed unpermitted structural, electrical, and plumbing work -When I realized we did need permits, and requested they be obtained, work all but stopped, and this contractor eventually abandoned the job. -Horrible communication; many unanswered text messages and unreturned phone calls, and many promises of work that never got done. -He claimed a large portion of the money was going to pay for materials like cabinets and countertops, but none of those were ever paid for! -When we tried to negotiate a fair refund, he threatened to put a lien on our house! -As of Dec 20, and at the point we hired him in September, he is unbonded with t”

“We started our house renovation project on July 10th. Gilbert estimated that the project would be completed at the end of August / beginning of September and we gave him the initial payment up front. Initially we were seeing progress, there was consistently a crew coming over to work on the house. Unfortunately, the project kept getting delayed and there would be days or a whole week when a crew wouldn’t come by. In the middle of August Gilbert let us know that his granite guy would be able to get the kitchen countertops installed in about a week. We agreed to let him demo the existing countertops assuming we would only have about a week without counters. Gilbert also asked that we pay a lump sum of 10K for the countertops so that he could pay his granite contractor up front for the material. This turned into a situation of “next week”, “next week” and “next week”. We went over a month without kitchen countertops (sink, dishwasher and range top included). Finally, the kitchen countertops came in and were installed. Two days after the countertops were installed the granite contractor came back over and said that he will need to remove them because Gilbert never paid him for the mate”

“You will not find a better crew in Midland. These guys are thorough, meticulous, and pay great attention to detail. We had several bids for our remodel and all were MUCH higher than Leonard and Son’s, yet they were the only ones that were able to show pictures of previous projects. I spent several years in construction so I knew what was fair and what the project would entail. Early on in discussions I could tell that Gilbert and his crew knew what was going on. They expressed some of the same concerns I had with the project and then we discussed solutions together. They made sure I knew of all plans and that I was comfortable with them. There were no surprise increases in the amount discussed, no hidden fees whatsoever. When the work was done, the area we were remodeling looked as though it was original to the house. For those that live in Midland, you know this is huge. Gilbert and his crew even came back after the project was done and moved a door to center it in a hallway just to ensure it looked perfect (at no additional cost). I cannot say enough good about these guys. Without a doubt, they will be the ONLY crew we use for our home improvements.”

“I contacted Leonard in early April to paint the entire inside of my new townhouse. He was available on short notice, they started in a few days. They were to paint all the walls, ceilings, trim and doors in every room including the garage. I had asked to paint the inside of outer storage room and repair trim and garage door, he said he would take care of it. After about four days they were done with the painting, so they said. Quality was fair, I had to go around and touch up a lot of spots. The outer storage room never was painted and garage door trim was not repaired. I called and he said he would be over the next day, never showed. Eventually he just ignored my calls. My mistake for paying in full. I would never use them again. Might want to remove the cross from your truck if your going to do business like this.”

“What can I say! It is hard to find contractors that are not too busy for a single residential job. I only wish I had found this company when we began our projects in our home. They installed a frameless glass shower door to help finish up our bathroom remodel. They were meticulous about the install all the way to the clean up. Very professional I highly recommend them.”

“Contracted Gilbert with Leonard and Son earlier this year to re-paint the entire interior of one of our townhomes as well as replace ~15sf of tile in the upstairs bathroom. He and his crew did an EXCELLENT job and got in and out quickly. Price was reasonable. HOWEVER, we had a carpet cleaning machine, a sofa, loveseat, dresser, and chest of drawers stored in the garage for use after he was finished to furnish the place. He and his crew were the only ones with access to the home at the time. When he was finished, only the sofa and loveseat were still in the garage. I asked him about it and he said he would check into his crew. No response from him since then after several calls, voicemails, and text messages. He will not answer my calls or texts. I can't call Gilbert himself a thief necessarily, but he might at least employ one or more and won't respond to me to resolve the issue.”

“This company assured us they would install a doggy door this week. When the scheduled day arrived, they didn’t show and when someone finally returned my husband’s call via text, they said the next day they would do it. And then once again, no one showed and someone finally texted that they couldn’t do it that day. We’re done with this company. Texting instead of calling with no apology for not showing up, not showing up the day service was promised... this isn’t how a professional company conducts business. I wish there was an option of choosing 0 stars as a rating.”

“In a city where it's hard to find dependable and honest contractors... be assured that you can find that in Leonard & Son's!! I had a small job... but they showed up when they said they would, stuck to the estimate that they quoted and very friendly and professional. I will definitely be calling them again!!!”
