“I needed a filter basket for my Jandy filter pump. The store representative wasn't sure what I needed. He called for the owner Bill for his help. He ask me what type of filter pump I had and he picked up the basket I needed and he gave a brief explanation of its operation. I ask what the cost was and he picked up a tag for $39.99. Bill could sense I wasn't going to spend that much. He lectured me on how he had $100 dollars of employees and how I was an online shopper. He then turned and walked away continuing to verbalize his displeasure with my not purchasing a filter basket at that high of a price. Two of his employee's witnessed this interaction with a customer. I will never shop at this pool store again. I will contact Pinch A Penny franchise compliance and file a complaint with them.”
“I feel like we have used every pool service company in The Woodlands. These guys have been the best. Kyle, our pool guy, is so friendly and knowledgeable. Plus, when we have an issue they answer the phone and come right away! Highly recommend!”
“Very disappointing experience. Left my Polaris cleaner for service (just wanted to check if it was repairable before buying a new one). Never heard back. Stopped by few days later just to realize nothing was done. Gave it another try and no communication for another week... Picked it up (with no comments again) and went to a different place.”
“Super hospitable employees. Well knowledge in the pool and spa subject area and for the most part, the store is pretty stocked up in whatever pool supplies you may need.”
“We had a fantastic experience at Pinch A Penny in Magnolia, TX. Jonathan was incredibly helpful and hands-down the most knowledgeable person we spoke with during our search for a pool cleaner. He walked us through the options, answered every question clearly, and gave us total confidence in our purchase. We ended up buying a Polaris robotic cleaner, and Jonathan’s expertise made what felt like a big investment an easy decision. His professionalism and customer service were top-tier. If you're looking for someone who genuinely knows their stuff and takes the time to help, ask for Jonathan. Highly recommend this location.”
“Great place for pool supplies. Tons of products. The staff and owner are top notch.Either repairs or cleaning they know the pool industry.”
“If you're looking for a company with high integrity that you can trust 100% for their work, service, and expertise, Mr. Bill and his staff are the ones you want to work with. Long story short, I had a pool heater failure from a unit I purchased and had them install. Bill personally came out and worked with me to ensure the issue was resolved. His team was incredibly supportive throughout the process, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the ‘white glove’ service I received. I highly recommend them, and they’re welcome to use me as a reference anytime!"”
“EDIT: for posterity, this location noted they would reach out, but as of today (8/9/26) they have not. --- I brought my Polaris robotic pool sweeper to this Pinch A Penny location (Magnolia #230) after a friend recommended them. I hadn’t purchased the unit there, but this store is closer to home and I wasn’t previously aware of it. When I first visited, I spoke with a gentleman (I regret not catching his name) who was helpful, knowledgeable, and customer-service oriented. He gave me confidence they’d be able to assist, mentioning that he “fixes these things all the time.” Unfortunately, that’s where the positive experience ended. After over a week passed with no update, I began calling the store to follow up. I was met with vague responses and no estimated timeframe. Eventually, I spoke with the owner, Bill, whose response was dismissive at best. Instead of offering a resolution or showing concern, he told me it would probably be best if I just “come get it.” No follow-up. No accountability. No attempt to make things right. It was clear that customer service wasn’t a priority. I’m writing this to make sure future customers and the local community know what they’re getting into”
“This store has always been a great help with my pool issues. When my CYA levels were very high, several companies recommended draining the pool. Instead, the store advised me to switch to liquid chlorine for a while, which helped lower the CYA without costing much. Thanks to their guidance, my pool is now back to the expected levels.”
“I wish I can give Bill zero starts. He came to my home mid-July and told me that my pool system is compromised and we need to change the whole plumbing (even though all plumbing is less than 3 years old) and he said I have heat because O-rings leak. He charged me $159 to change 4 O-rings. Immediately after he left, they continued to leak, I kept calling him and the office but was told he is out of town and would call me in 10 days. He never called. I had to hits another company, they charged me $60 and changed all four O-rings and emailed me an invoice and an email indicating that those O-rings were leaking still and cause the system to heat up. I texted Bill asked for a refund and he said NO and the reason is that my system is compromised and old. It has been 2 full months since the other company changed the O-rings with NO issues. If you want to save your money and your pool system and not run into scams, stay away from Bill and his company. Very dishonest”
“I had a great experience at Pinch A Penny, thanks to Andrew. He was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, going out of his way to ensure I found everything I needed. The rest of the team, Kyle, Austin, and Christine, were also friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this location for all your pool needs!”
“LOVE this place! The service is great and Bill is always so helpful and knowledgeable. When I bought my home last summer I wanted a Polaris cleaner installed. The pool had not been fitted for one when it was built but Bill was able to work with my system to figure it out and get it installed. He did this as cost effectively as he could and I couldn't be happier with the results! I can't recommend them enough.”
“Pinch A Penny exceeds expectations. We recently moved here to The Woodlands and being new pool owners just went with the most visible pool company but it seemed like every time we got our water tested we needed more products which = lots of money We knew when we bought this house we needed to replace our leaking filter pump so my husband called around to a lot of stores to compare price, installing fee, & warranty Bill at Pinch A Penny was by far the most helpful, knowledgeable, and competitively priced. They just installed our new pump and the service was outstanding & an amazing price! Richard the manager knows his stuff too. He’s helped us a ton with education on our Polaris and he did maintenance and tweaked it so it works like new. He obviously knows what he’s doing. He didn’t try to sell us the store. He was realistic and conservative about what we need right now but helped us understand a bigger picture. We are so happy to find personalized and affordable service in The Woodlands and Pinch A Penny has earned our business loyalty. I tell everybody I know who owns a pool to go see them!”
“They cleaned my pool well and got my pump/filter back up and running after it unexpectedly went out. I signed up for monthly cleaning, then received a $365 charge for getting the pump going and chemicals etc..with an invoice. $90 charge with no invoice or anything, I called and was told it was a pro-rated amount for a week of cleaning/chemicals. Then we got a monthly charge so my wife called just to get an explanation and make sure we're on the same page, and that we know what we're paying for. Wife asked for an explanation, the girl basically said its for cleaning the pool - so my wife asked how can she be sure what the charges are for without even asking our name/address or looking us up. The girl said she did not like my wifes tone and literally hung up on her. Wife calls back frustrated naturally and spoke with Chad, when she mentioned how rude the first girl was who hung up on her, he was dismissive and rude as well, then just passed the phone off to a guy named Bob without even saying anything. Bob gets on and just asks my wife whats her issue and went into a rant about rates and taxes, when my wife was first trying to address the original girl hanging up on her. Bob was unhe”
“Great people here with great advise. I was having real water problems that I've never faced in over 12 years with this pool. It was a few step process, but after a week.... clear and algea free pool. I highly reccomend!”
“Stay away from this place. Our pool heater stopped working. They came out and said rats had chewed through all the wiring and the heater need to be replaced. Gave me an estimate of about $5000. Called another pool company. He showed me that wiring was fine but needed a circuit board replaced. $700 later and heater works fine.”
“These guys really know their stuff! I go out of my way (30 min both ways) to do my water tests here, because of the expertise of all of their employees, which exceeds other pool stores and even other Pinch a Penny's in the area. I've been everywhere, and for a while I really tried to find a store I can trust this much closer to me that is this good. They take the time to walk me through all of the complicated chemical requirements of the 2 spas and a pool i manage, and speak straight forwardly about what's worth it and what isn't when it comes to replacing parts for my pool vacuum. Andrew in Particular has the experience and experize to diagnose, repair, and advise on mechanical parts and get me out the door in 15 minutes. Christine is always there with a familiar smile to perform and advise on water tests and spa chemicals, remembering me and my spas and pools from previous weeks in order to answer complicated questions on how to proceed. Daniel, who also has on the job practical experience with pool maintenance can separate the signal from the noise when it comes to pool chemicals. This is the place to go for attentive, experienced and personable professionals who do their ”
“Poor filter cleaning service! I'm tired of giving them numerous opportunities to do the right this. If you can get them to even show up, highly unlikely. The original filter clean appointment with Andrew, no show. Then next day, he was supposed to be here early sfternoon. But then called me at 4:45 that he was close, but stuck behind a train stopped on track. I told him how to easily go around, he said okay. Then 35 minutes later he was still sitting in car waiting for train. Then he said it was after 5 and that was his quitting time. Totally irresponsibity, dishonest, unreliable! Don't waste your time with this store!!”
“Bill and his team are great. Had issues after a power outage. Left message after hours on Sunday, Bill was out Monday morning. Had me back in business by lunch!”
“Don't use their pool service. We were gone for 2 weeks and they came to take care of our pool twice. We came home 2 days after they last "took care" of it and it was sucking air, as the water level was well below the filters. The next day it was green and had an error that salt was needed. We brought a water sample into a real pool store and we had no salt and therefore it wasn't making chlorine. We've left messages and they won't return our calls to address.”
