About

Sonny Jones Welding operates out of Abilene, Texas, where they handle all kinds of welding work for local folks. The shop sits at 1902 N Treadaway Blvd and has been around since 1964, giving them more than sixty years fixing metal on ranches, farms, and around town. Sonny Jones runs the place with one helper and sticks to a simple rule that if he cannot weld it then his name is not on it. They focus on metal fabrication and quick repairs rather than fancy custom jobs. Homeowners in Taylor County call them when something breaks and needs to hold up under real use like gates, equipment, or tools that take a beating from the weather and daily work.

Sonny and his helper tackle jobs like welding a mower handle back together so it works again without delay. They also dig through scrap piles to find the right pieces of steel for someone building their own project and only charge a few dollars for the material. One customer walked in needing a fast fix and left under fifteen minutes after Sonny met them at the door and got it done. Another brought a rim in for welding after getting the tire off elsewhere, though that one did not go smooth. The crew stays friendly and stops what they are doing to help pick out parts or handle small repairs on the spot instead of making people wait around.

Folks keep coming back because the prices stay fair and they do not pad the bill on simple fixes. Speed shows up often in how fast they finish small jobs like mower handles or quick steel cuts. Quality gets the job done so the part holds but it might not look polished if no one sands it down. Communication stays straightforward with Sonny meeting customers right away and explaining what he can do. The lower overall mark comes from one case where the rim job did not finish as expected. What Customers Say

Sonny and his helper was able to fix the handle on my mower right away didn’t charge me an arm and a leg, the welding wasn’t super pretty and feel like they could’ve gotten a sander and smoothed it out to make it pretty but I approve they were nice gentlemen I appreciate their time and work 👍

I was looking for a couple of pieces of steel to complete a DIY project. Sonny stopped what he was doing to help me pick through a pile and he was able to find what I needed and only charged me a couple of dollars. I found him to be very easy going and friendly. I would visit here again if I ever need some scrap steel for my projects.

Walk in and Sonny met me at the door and fix what I needed done and I was out in less than 15 minutes. Highly recommend him. 👌

Went there this past Friday. He said he would weld my rim. I asked the owner what a tire shop he recommended to have my tire removed from the rim. I took his advice. I spoke with this man face to face. Told him I would be back as soon as they got the tire off the rim. I came back to get the rim welded. This man closed his shop and never answered his phone. I will never do business there again!!!! I do not know you can say you will do it then close a shop up knowing they said they were coming back. Bad business is all I can say. This is my opinion of the place.

Asked him to fix two legs from my sink in my restaurant and left it with 2 wholes that get my floor wet and have asked him multiple times to come and do his job and gave me a gerinted that he would fix it 2 weeks ago on Monday hasn’t called me or showed up to fix it after he said he would do it
