The problem
You learned the client's gate code the first visit. You put it... where? In a text? In your notes app? In your head? By the third job you've texted them to ask for it again and now they think you don't pay attention.
Why we built it
Client notes capture the small things that make the difference — gate codes, parking rules, pet warnings, communication preferences. Log them by voice after a job and they're on the client card for every visit.
How it works
- 1
From a client card, tap mic and say "Note: ..."
- 2
DIRT logs the note with a timestamp. It stays on the client card.
- 3
Before your next visit, open the client card and see everything you logged.
What changes for your business
Before
Gate code in a text from six months ago. Easier to text and ask again.
After
Note on the client card. Gate code, dog warning, parking note — all there before the next visit.
Common questions
How do I add a note to a client record in DIRT?
Open the client card, tap the mic, and say "Note:" followed by what you want to remember. DIRT logs it with a timestamp and it stays on the client card permanently. You can also type a note if you're not in a situation where talking is convenient.
Can I log gate codes and site access details by voice?
Yes — that's exactly the use case. After your first visit, say "Note: gate code is 4421, dog in the backyard, park in the driveway." It's on the client card for every future visit. No more texting the client to ask for their gate code again.
Where do client notes show up in DIRT?
Notes appear on the client card. Every time you open that client, their notes are visible — access details, communication preferences, anything specific you've logged. Notes don't appear on invoices or bid pages.
Are client notes tied to the person or to a specific job?
Client notes are tied to the client record and visible across all their jobs. If you want to log something specific to one job — a scope note, a material substitution, or a site condition — add it on the job record instead.
Can I add notes hands-free while driving between jobs?
Voice notes are hands-free. If you're in the truck after a job and want to log something before you forget — a preference the client mentioned, an access issue for next time — tap the mic and say it. Done before you pull out of the driveway.
How do client notes reduce mistakes on repeat visits?
Context that lives in your head eventually gets lost. A client you worked with six months ago has a gate code, a specific parking situation, and maybe a communication preference. If it's in the notes, you look it up before you arrive. That level of attention is what earns referrals.
