Every time a contractor has to retype information they already logged, they risk forgetting something — and they delay billing. We built invoice drafting from the job so billing happens before you forget the details, before the drive home, before anything else. The job record is the invoice; you just send it.
How it works

Open the job. Every item you logged — labor, materials, expenses — is listed with its billing status. You can see what's already on an invoice and what's still unbilled.

Common questions
How do I create an invoice from a job in DIRT?
From the job screen, tap "Create Invoice." DIRT builds a draft invoice with all unbilled line items from that job pre-populated — materials, labor, fees, and any expenses you logged. You review the draft, adjust anything if needed, and send it.
Do I have to retype my line items when making an invoice from a job?
No. Everything you logged on the job transfers directly to the invoice draft. If you added a material as a line item when you bought it, it shows up on the invoice automatically. The invoice is built from the job record, not from memory.
What is the difference between a draft invoice and a sent invoice?
A draft is in progress — you can edit, add, or remove line items before it goes out. Once you tap "Send," the invoice is delivered to the client and moves to sent status. Always review the draft before sending to confirm every line item is correct and nothing is missing.
What counts as an unbilled line item on a job?
Any line item you added to the job that hasn't been included on an invoice yet. On a job you've billed in draws, some items went on the first draw and some didn't. The ones that weren't included are still unbilled and will appear in the next invoice draft.
Can I add new line items to the invoice draft before sending?
Yes. The draft is fully editable before it goes out. Add, remove, or adjust any line item, change the due date, or add a note. Once you send the invoice, DIRT marks those line items as billed and they won't pull in again on the next invoice.
Does DIRT create a draft invoice automatically or do I have to initiate it?
You initiate it by tapping "Create Invoice" from the job screen. DIRT builds the draft immediately from your unbilled line items. Nothing sends automatically — you always review and confirm before it goes to the client.
