Common questions
How do I see my year-to-date profit as a contractor?
Open the Stats tab in DIRT. YTD profit, average EHR, and job count are at the top. You can also view by week or month. Every job you log in DIRT feeds the stats — so the number is only as accurate as what you have recorded.
Is there a dashboard for small contractor businesses?
DIRT's Stats tab is built for solo and small-crew contractors. It shows the metrics that matter for your scale: effective hourly rate, net profit, job volume, and trends. Not a full accounting dashboard with a general ledger — a margin and rate view that tells you how the work is going.
How do I know if my business is profitable?
Look at your average EHR and net profit over time. If EHR is trending up and covers your target rate with overhead included, the business is working. If EHR is flat or dropping while you stay busy, you are growing revenue but not profit — which is the more dangerous situation.
What business stats should a solo contractor track?
At minimum: effective hourly rate per job, net profit per job, total outstanding AR, and trend over time. DIRT tracks all of these from your job records and surfaces them in the Stats tab. The trends are what turn isolated numbers into a picture of the business.
How do I compare this month's revenue to last month?
In DIRT Stats, switch between week, month, and YTD views. The current period shows alongside the prior period for comparison. If this month's EHR is lower than last month's, DIRT shows you the gap and you can drill into the jobs that drove it.
Can I see my profit margin by job type in DIRT?
DIRT organizes jobs by client and by time period in the stats view. For job-type breakdowns, look at your job list sorted by EHR — patterns by job type emerge when you see which jobs consistently appear at the top or bottom of the list.
