The problem
You're in the truck leaving the supply house. Logging a trip means pulling over, opening the app, tapping through fields. By the time you've gotten to the next stop you've decided not to bother.
Why we built it
Voice trip logging captures the data without breaking the drive. Say what you did and where. DIRT logs it.
How it works
- 1
Tap mic from the truck — or say "Hey DIRT" if hands-free is enabled.
- 2
"Supply run to Ferguson, fourteen miles, Henderson job."
- 3
DIRT logs the trip and assigns it to the correct job. Confirm when you park.
What changes for your business
Before
Can't log from the cab. Forget the mileage. Job costs are understated.
After
Say it on the way. Logged. Hands on the wheel the whole time.
Common questions
Can I log a mileage trip by talking from the truck without pulling over?
Yes. Tap mic and say the destination, miles, and which job it's for. DIRT logs the trip. You confirm it when you park — no pulling over, no typing, hands on the wheel the whole time.
What do I actually say to log a trip by voice?
"Supply run to Ferguson, fourteen miles, Henderson job." That's the whole entry. DIRT creates the trip log and assigns it to the job.
Do I have to include the job name when I log a trip?
No. Log the trip without a job name and assign it later from the Trips screen. Better to capture the miles immediately and assign when you park than to lose the record.
What if I forget to log a trip until I'm back at the shop?
Manual log entry works fine — tap "Log trip," enter destination, miles, and job. Voice is the fast path from the road. Manual is the fallback when you remember later.
Does the voice-logged trip tie into job costs and invoicing?
Yes. The trip is assigned to the job, the mileage cost shows in the job's expense breakdown, and you can mark it billable so it appears as a line item on the invoice.
What's the advantage of voice trip logging over a dedicated mileage app?
The trip is connected to the job in DIRT — not sitting in a separate app you have to reconcile at tax time. Miles, costs, and billing all live in the same record as the labor and materials.
